Lestat is the daughter of the witches you couldn't burn.
To elaborate: the show is deliberately trying to align Lestat with a particular and reductive construct of white femme innocence/fragility, not out of a sincere interest in exploring a trans story line, but to enhance a sense of his victimization and avoid any in-narrative discussions of accountability. remember when people were saying that they liked that amc's tvl wasn't a mary sue insert like the book. and then it turns out that it's rolin jones's mary sue. he took two seasons of flawed but gorgeous storytelling and paraded the book around for promo when he really threw it all away just to write a masturbatory, self-congratulating season that had nothing to do with iwtv or tvc and everything to do with getting back at critics who denied him a pulitzer and mistook the white supremacy in his show for purposeful analysis of racism instead of the white supremacy it actually was

when i try my hand at not getting annoyed as easily and then i happen to open youtube and this is the first thing i see
even beyond the overt racism, this is really why rolin's TVL is so gross I think: because it was written specifically to hedge against criticism by positioning itself as some sort of misunderstood underdog (like its protagonist) and spur fans to create things just like this, which they're falling for hook line and sinker.
the whole season is transparently a meta storyline of a gay white man who believes that he's the victim of unjust persecution --
-- not any kind of systemic societal persecution, because he's too powerful and flippant for homophobia to ever touch him, nor do vampires even really want him dead because he chickens out of convincing the world that they're real --
-- but of some vague prejudice against him for existing because he's just too cool and radical, in some immaterial way that like the aesthetic rebelliousness of tim burton and rolin jones doesn't stand for anything, even any principles specific to vampires in-world.
so he manufactures his own narrative, told in his own words to the audience, where he triumphs over this supposed prejudice literally in his own mind and nowhere else, because that supposed cruel persecution does not in fact exist and so there is nowhere in the world of his show to actually triumph over anything. it's a cynical, fourth-wall facing season of television about a man who despite his transgressions defines himself by victimhood and must warp everything and everyone around him to justify that identity, whose grand self actualization consists of pithy comebacks to made-up caricatures of people in his head.
#sorry to go off on your post that is like the fifth video essay i've seen defending rj and this show.#it's just so funny that if you analyze the show as fans claim to do - that it's lestat's warped retelling - it still falls the fuck apart.#and I say gay because lestat like rolin is clearly a misogynist who as written only views women as disposable pleasures and not as partners#tvl critical

the idea of CNN being more repulsed and shattered about the us government torturing little bogos binted aliens than real life genocides is quite real however. you'd think Spielberg would have something to say about that
this movie is just a really stupid person's idea of a profound film. if it was a 14 year old pitching it, it would be fine but Steven Spielberg is worth billions and is 70 something years old
