A Very Distraught Jester

Practiced our research presentation in front of one of my archaeology professors and she thought I represented the field of maritime archaeology and its issues well, so now it's just time to finish up edits and prepare for our presentation which is in.... two days. Terrifying.

I get to talk about the Khufu boat though!

Other departments: Write clearly and don’t over explain anything.

Classics department: If you fail to account for every single minor counter argument or issue that may be found in your writing, even if said issue is a stretch or a bad faith read, you will have to duel Socrates himself.

Part of my research currently requires understanding boat lines so here's a rather tedious but useful project taking the boat lines for the Hercules steam tug, tracing them, and then importing them to blender to create a 3D model. It's not a perfect example due to some other issues, but I tend to learn things better by sometimes just doing it the tedious and hard way the first time, so this has been very useful for my general understanding. Working on now translating this to a proper 3D model.

Summer research is constantly alternating between, “Oh my god this is so cool I can’t believe I get to work on this project,” and, “Oh my god who let me work on this I have zero clue what I’m doing.”

Doing that thing where you keep stacking books relevant to your topic and hoping that once your stack gets tall enough the answers will be revealed to you. This will be my tower of Babylon

Due to summer research, my summer break lasts less time than winter break! Training starts Tuesday and my last exam was last Tuesday so… I got 5 full days off! Four really, since move in’s tomorrow.

(This isn’t really a complaint, this research project is so exciting and I wouldn’t change things, I’m just a little burnt out lol)
