XKit Rewritten v1.3.6

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-07-17, and by Mozilla on 2026-07-21. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Changed

  • Tag Replacer will now refuse to process posts that already have the maximum number of tags (30), to prevent unintentional remove-only operations.

Fixed

  • No Recommended → "Hide recommended blogs in the blog view sidebar" is working again.
  • AccessKit → "Pause GIFs until they are hovered over" no longer pauses GIFs permanently in one very obscure scenario.

XKit Rewritten v1.3.5

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-06-16, and by Mozilla on 2026-06-18. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • Starting with this version, XKit Rewritten on Chrome will warn you when it is unloaded by the browser. This can happen if you disable the extension while it's still running in a Tumblr tab, or if running instances are halted by the browser to apply a version update.

Changed

  • No Recommended → "Hide posts from non-joined communities in For You and search results" has been split into two options: ◦ "Hide posts from non-joined communities in For You" ◦ "Hide posts from non-joined communities in search results"

Fixed

  • No Recommended no longer hides posts from non-joined communities in the "Comments" tab on blogs.
  • Tweaks → "Hide filtered posts entirely" now works again when endless scrolling is disabled, and on multi-column views.

XKit Rewritten v1.3.4

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-06-08, and by Mozilla on 2026-06-12. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • PostBlock's preferences UI now provides links to blocked posts, when possible. Links to posts blocked prior to this update will be backfilled as you browse with PostBlock enabled.
  • You can now unblock a post with PostBlock via a post's meatballs menu ( → "Unblock this post").

Changed

  • Posts hidden by PostBlock or Tweaks no longer fully disappear on post permalink views. Instead, the post will be hidden behind a warning, with the option to view anyway.

Fixed

  • Mutual Checker → "Only show posts from mutuals on the dashboard" no longer hides posts from your own blogs.
  • Mutual Checker no longer adds "[blogname] follows you!" icons to your own blog cards.

XKit Rewritten v1.3.3

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-05-26, and by Mozilla on 2026-05-28. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • Mutual Checker now displays a "follows you" icon in a blog's hover card if that blog follows you, but you do not follow it back.
  • Vanilla Audio and Vanilla Video now allow any percentage value (0-100) for their "Default Volume" settings.
  • Classic Footer now moves Tumblr's reblog menu to the left, so that it doesn't spill out of the main column. ℹ️ This behaviour only applies when the "Turn reblog buttons back into links" option, which hides this menu, is not enabled.

Changed

  • AccessKit → "Pause GIFs until they are hovered over" now actually pauses GIFs in the miscellaneous parts of the Tumblr UI, instead of blanking them.
  • Tag Replacer's UI now more effectively communicates when it is in append-only or delete-only mode.

Fixed

  • Mutual Checker → "Only show posts from mutuals on the dashboard" now hides all posts from non-mutuals, including posts from blogs which you do not follow (e.g. recommended posts). ⚠️ This also includes posts from your own blogs, since you cannot be mutuals with yourself. We are considering this a bug, and it will be fixed in the next release.

Palettes for Tumblr v2.0.6

This version was approved for distribution by Google and Mozilla on 2026-05-01. Please allow 24 hours for your browser to pull the update, or see how to update manually on Chrome or on Firefox.

Changed

  • The built-in copies of the "Ghost" and "Pride" palettes have been updated to match Tumblr's recent changes to these palettes.

Fixed

  • Custom palettes once again apply their "white on dark" colour correctly to things like the site navigation and sidebar items. Please let us know on the bug tracker if you see any spots where it still isn't being applied as you would expect.

PSA: Quick Tags causing CPU spikes

Hi all. We've identified an issue with XKit Rewritten v1.3.0 and v1.3.1 which causes unnecessary CPU spikes on some machines.

The issue occurs only if you have Quick Tags enabled without any tag bundles defined. If you're affected, please define at least one tag bundle to mitigate the issue.

If the CPU spike is causing the XKit control panel to stay stuck in a "Loading…" state, please close your Tumblr tabs and open the XKit control panel from a new tab instead. You do not have to have Tumblr open to configure XKit Rewritten.

This bug had already been patched before we were aware of the associated CPU spikes, and the fix will make its way to you as part of XKit Rewritten v1.3.2, currently awaiting review by Google and Mozilla.

If you're not already, please follow this blog to be notified of when this patch is available on all browsers.

My sincere apologies for the disruption.

XKit Rewritten v1.3.1

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-04-15, and by Mozilla on 2026-04-23. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • If you're on Firefox, the XKit control panel has a new look! This includes a bunch of improvements to UX and accessibility. Chrome users received these changes in XKit Rewritten v1.3.0, but this version was skipped on Firefox to expedite v1.3.1's release. 🔗 15th April, 2026 · XKit Rewritten v1.3.0: Acorn

Fixed

  • Quick Reblog is once again compatible with posts in masonry layout mode on Search/Explore/etc. pages.
  • Classic Footer → "Turn reblog buttons back into links" again correctly hides Tumblr's reblog menu, skipping straight to the reblog form when a post's reblog button is pressed.
  • Classic Footer's note count button is now fully compatible with Tumblr's updated miniature post footer.

15th April, 2026

XKit Rewritten v1.3.0: Acorn

This release includes a complete renovation of the XKit control panel, which now adheres to the Acorn Design System.

This includes some long-overdue UX improvements:

  • Confirmation on destructive actions: Deleting a Quick Tags bundle, unblocking a post with PostBlock, or importing a configuration via Backup → Import now prompt to confirm the action, to prevent unhappy accidents.
  • Improved tag bundle reordering: The visual experience when dragging a Quick Tags bundle has been made a lot less confusing, with only one copy of each bundle staying visible at a time.
  • Accessibility fixes: The tab system in the control panel is now fully ARIA-compliant, and text readability has been improved—the base font size has been increased slightly, and the new colour scheme ensures acceptable contrast ratios in both light and dark modes.

This version was approved by Google on 2026-04-10. Due to the expedited release of XKit Rewritten v1.3.1, Firefox users will skip this release and will instead receive these changes as part of that patch (when approved by Mozilla).

If you're not already doing so, please follow this blog to be notified of future bug patches and feature releases as they become available.

Happy configuring!

PSA: Bad interactions between XKit Rewritten and Tumblr's post footer updates

We're aware of a few bugs caused by Tumblr's internal changes to the reblog menu, and by the introduction of a new smaller post footer on mini-sized posts.

These issues affect XKit Rewritten v1.3.0 and earlier, and will be fixed in v1.3.1 (currently pending review by Google and Mozilla):

  • Quick Reblog doesn't work when viewing posts in masonry display mode, on views that support that.
  • Classic Footer → "Turn reblog buttons back into links" doesn't prevent the reblog menu from appearing, but does cause it to be wildly out-of-position.
  • Classic Footer → "Turn reblog buttons back into links" has no effect on mini-sized posts (including the Tumblr Radar).
  • Classic Footer's note count button doesn't open the notes popup on mini-sized posts (including the Tumblr Radar).

Again, these issues will be fixed in XKit Rewritten v1.3.1, so please sit tight—and, if you're not doing so already, follow this blog to be notified when this version is available on all browsers.

Apologies for the disruption, and thank you for your patience.

XKit Rewritten v1.2.3

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-03-08, and by Mozilla on 2026-03-20. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • Quick Reblog has a new keyboard shortcut in its text fields for comments and tags. Hit CTRL+Enter on Windows/Linux, or Command+Enter on macOS, to reblog instantly.
  • Show Originals now works on Blogpack! pages.

Removed

Changed

  • Vanilla Audio has been updated to better fit into the new style of the Tumblr audio player.
  • When restoring an exported configuration in the XKit control panel's Backup tab, any existing data is now overwritten, rather than the existing config and the backup being merged. (If there is any existing data that would be overwritten by restoring a backup, there will be a warning in the Backup tab saying so.)
  • The XKit control panel continues to receive visual updates. Updated in this version are the font, the colours of checkboxes, and the look of feature toggle switches.

Fixed

  • Themed Posts no longer inserts gaps of empty space between items in the reblog trail.

XKit Rewritten v1.2.2

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-02-25, and by Mozilla on 2026-03-06. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Changed

  • The Tweaks option "Move post permalinks back to attributed blognames" has been renamed back to "Restore links to individual posts in the post header", since the whole-post permalink behaviour that Tumblr was trialling has now been removed.

Fixed

  • Fixed various issues that occurred when Panorama's "Expand media content in wide posts" option is disabled: ◦ The "Dock post in sidebar" button is now positioned correctly. ◦ The clickable area for images now matches their visual area. ◦ Tumblr's new image borders now shrink to fit their images.

Other

  • Features and preferences in the XKit control panel have been rebuilt as web components. This shouldn't result in any behavioural changes, but please let us know if you run into any new issues.

XKit Rewritten v1.2.1

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-02-11, and by Mozilla on 2026-02-23. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • Quick Reblog has a new gesture for activation on touchscreens: 1. First, press your finger to a post's reblog button; 2. Then, move your finger somewhere else on the screen; 3. Finally, release your finger. This can make the Quick Reblog form appear more quickly than if it were opened by performing a long-press on the reblog button—but, if you prefer to keep doing that, that still works too.

Changed

  • When adding tags to an existing post with Quick Tags, the post is now updated on-screen using the same methods that Tumblr uses after editing a post via the editor. This means that using Quick Tags and then the Tumblr editor on the same post will no longer desynchronise the displayed tags from the actual current tags.

XKit Rewritten v1.2.0: Sidebar Blogs

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-01-26, and by Mozilla on 2026-02-05. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • New feature: Sidebar Blogs! The spiritual successor to New XKit's Header Options → "Show my blogs on the header", this makes your blogs easily reachable in the desktop site's main navigation—without the need to expand the Account menu every time.
  • Themed Posts will now detect if a blog's foreground colours have insufficient contrast against its background colour, and adjust them for readability if needed—similar to Tumblr's blog view.

Changed

  • The colour picker used for Painter's preferences in the XKit control panel has been replaced. The new colour picker shows each chosen hex code without needing to be expanded, and has a more recognisable graphic for "no colour chosen".
  • Feature rows in the XKit control panel are now styled a little differently, taking pointers from Firefox's "Acorn" design system.

Fixed

  • Quote Replies should no longer leave behind broken buttons on activity items when XKit Rewritten is updated on Firefox.
  • Tweaks → "Move post permalinks back to attributed blognames" once again works in the reblog trail.

XKit Rewritten v1.1.7

This version was approved for distribution by Google on 2026-01-06, and by Mozilla on 2026-01-21. Please allow 24 hours for Firefox to pull the update, or see how to update add-ons manually.

Added

  • In the control panel, deprecated features now have a warning icon next to them, instead of broken help links.

Fixed

  • Vanilla Audio once again hides the play button on Tumblr's custom audio players, leaving the inserted vanilla player as the sole way to play the audio track.
