"This set's a bloody death trap!"

@12th-century-cockney-guard

*cooking show presenter voice* It's a super simple recipe, all you're going to need is a shiny tuxedo and my design for a submarine car. You'll also need about seven pretty ladies, an aston martin- though a mercedes will also work if that's what you prefer- a base in a volcano and a lazer cigar. Add in some crocodile moccasins, a watch with a garrote in it and a vodka martini to taste and there's our man!

Here it is!!! I hope you like it :)))) thanks for everyone’s suggestions, they were so good!!

And of course here is a break down of why I chose every song below the cut ⬇️

Never Give Up On The Good Times

She used to be a chancer, sparkle in the rain

Suggests her being more risky at a prior point in her life and I can see this being polytechnic era Sandra quite a lot, used to be riskier and more laid back, but now she needs to take her future acting career seriously and now is the perfect time to reinvent herself leading to her feeling increasingly stressed and being considering more high maintenance as she strives for success within the confines of the CPDS

Told me she needed a friend

Sandra initially isolating herself due to her lofty ambitions and a slight false sense of superiority (which is at least a little bit of an act) but finding incredible friendships within the CPDS, particularly with Annie post PPGW 💕💕

...

Seems like the day never ends

CPDS is stressful man, what can you say?

...

Never give up on the good times

Gotta believe in the love you find

(Never give it up no, never give it up no)

Never give up on the good times

Living it up is a state of mind

(Never give it up no, never give it up no)

More generically Cornley in the chorus. The sets collapse, the cues are missed, the lines are forgotten but they carry on because they love it and EACH OTHER so they will never give it up as a result. There is a quote from a fic that sums it up perfectly (the mirror shows a break in time by bloopdydooooo - read it, it's amazing!!!)

“What kind of a director does it make me, if I just accept that ‘we’re cursed’ and leave it at that?”

“The Cornley Drama Society’s director,” Trevor said. “There’s some things you can’t change, so you just need to find the joy in it."

Bossa nova baby, heart is never soul

Shouting but he's never heard

Oooh Max lyrics now. Something something his need for attention from audiences coming from a lack of attention in other aspects of his life and him occasionally exploiting his happy go lucky personality to avoid having to sit with any sadness (which resurfaces at uncomfortable moments see: Robert's acting masterclass)

Eyes all wide and open, the streets are paved with gold

Dave Hearn's "resting Max face" does lead me to this. Some Max's do lead more giggly, but when nothing is happening to him on stage, his expression is often very wide eyed and vacant (not that significant, just something I picked up on :)) And "streets are paved with gold" = more (often unwarranted) optimism

*Chorus repeats*

____

Down and dirty city, feeling outta place

Sandra having lofty dreams of Hollywood and winding back up in the town she was born, but still feeling like she was made to do more?? Pretty her I feel.

And maybe you've ran outta time

Oughhhhh Sandra having to make peace that her life isn't turning out she expected.

Treats her like a lady, smile upon her face

But there are still great things in her life, the CPDS and ofc Max, who she gets to feel like herself with and who never fails to make her smile (also this line carries extra weight with trans Sandra ofc)

Make up the last of the lines

And her finding completion with the way her life has worked out in the end, and the acceptance of the trajectory her life has taken. Also the theatrical imagery makes it extra her I feel <3

Sorry about the extra long reblog! I'm just very grateful for this playlist and I have a lot of thoughts on Sandra so tyyyy. 💕💕

LOVE THIS!!! Will give the song a listen (abd read that fic, it’s been on my list but I’ve been in such a writing mood haha). Adore this analysis this is so fun!!
