I had a bit of a relapse, or perhaps just another migraine, but either way - I'm sick of this! GO AWAY!
Also, I've had anxiety dreams before (mainly the "brakes or steering wheel on the car not working" or "tap won't shut off properly, water everywhere" kind), but last night was the first time I dreamed about getting an assignment email for an exchange I didn't remember signing up for. What the hell!
I'm trying to actually participate in Chinese practice over at guardian_learning, but I'm way behind everyone else, so I'm feeling very silly about it. (I know there's no way to learn a reasonable amount of words or characters without actually studying, but I already have too many things in my life I can't keep up with. So I get in a week or two and then stop again for a few months, which is ... not ideal. On the positive side, even like that, every time I watch something I understand a little bit more, so something's happening in the language-learning part of my brain while I'm not paying attention. *g*)
Not that I've watched much of anything lately. I just tried to remember what the last new thing I watched was, and other than the one-episode-per-week watchalong of Imperial Coroner it was probably the new Matrix movie? And nothing else since, idk, November. I see people posting about all the things they watch, and I have no idea how they do it. (And then, of course, I go and binge-watch ten episodes a day. :p)
Writing is going slowly, but it is happening. Less than two weeks now to reach my January goals, but that should be plenty. :)
ETA: I meant to add - comment notifications appear to be delayed right now. Here's hoping it'll be fixed soon!
I recently tried out a recipe for pork medallions with peppercorn sauce (nice but not so great I'll make it often), and now have rather a lot of pickled green peppercorns that I should probably do something with at some point.
Anyone have favourite recipes with green peppercorns?
I'm so sorry I didn't manage to finish anything in time myself. Like I said under flock, I've been ill, but I'm getting better, and my plan is to finish all the treats I've started by the end of the month.
But first, I'm going to look at the collection and everyone else's trees! This fest is such a joy. ♥
thank you so much for writing a story or creating art for me! I'll be absolutely thrilled about anything you can create about the relationships I requested, and everything important is in the requests themselves, but if you'd like even more info, general likes etc., here you go:
I spent some time yesterday on Gong Jun's delightful NYE performance (weibo link because I couldn't find a good quality version on youtube) - it's this Nicholas Tse song. Oh no, I have been earwormed again ...
Yuletide author reveals, part 2:
With Heart Attack running so close into Yuletide, I thought I wasn't going to manage any treats at all, but I got this one finished just in time!
And I didn't expect anyone to comment other than the recipient (shadaras, of course, who shares my love for Huo Wensi and this rarepair in an already-rare fandom), but another person did comment! So that was a delighful surprise. :D

Title: Shiver Fandom: 绅探 | Detective L Rating: M Pairing: Huo Wensi/Luo Fei Content tags: Lovers to Enemies to Allies, UST, Simmering Violence, or is it Simmering Desire, (it's both), Post-Canon
Summary: Huo Wensi will not cut Luo Fei's throat. Luo Fei is almost sure of it.
This, as usual, is mostly the same meme I've done before - in January of 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016 and 2015, taken, mixed and adapted from a variety of memes and people.
Total number of posted stories in 2021: 20 (one fewer than last year - but unlike last year, none of them were drabbles, and this is still the year with the third highest number)
(However, unlike last year, I once again - like in 2018 and 2019 - didn't post so much as a single fic that wasn't for an exchange or fest.)
As I've done since 2014, I kept track of my writing in a spreadsheet which I originally got via inkingitout and then modified for my own purposes. And I've totally failed at checking in both at inkingitout and at Write Every Day this year, but I did write at least an alibi sentence every day - my streak since January 2015 is still unbroken. \o/
Once again too much of my year was alibi sentences - I don't even know why, other than generalised exhaustion, which has been ongoing since 2019.
Anyway, here are some word count statistics:
Total word count (posted): 74,471 - that's about 20k more than last year, and 22k more than the year before! (Not up to the nearly 98k of 2018, but still!) All thanks to heartattackexchange, I suppose, which added 21k to my word count in December. *g* Total word count (written): 132,536 - about 9k more than last year, which was 15k more than the year before. Still nowhere near the consistently-above-200k word counts of 2016-18, but definitely crawling upwards. Highest monthly word count (posted): 25,252 (December) - about 8k more than last year, and still 4k below December 2019, even though I wrote a 20k monster again. *g* Highest monthly word count (written): 37,781 (December) - about 12k more than last year's highest, about 1k below 2019's, and 12k below my best from 2018.
Most words written in a day: 7,662 (9th December) - bringing me more than 2k above last year's highest. (Nowhere near 2019's 11k, but that was very, very much a unique outlier.) Fewest words written in a day: 1 (12th May) - at least I had a one-word alibi sentence only once this year, unlike the three times of 2020?
Months I actually posted fic: 9 - two more than last year, equal to my previous best year (2016)
People I couldn't have done without: china_shop, navaan, shadaras, and the Write Every Day crowd (even though I failed so badly at checking in all year). Thank you so much, all of you! ♥ ♥ ♥
Yuletide author reveals happened while I was asleep! I wrote Time Engraver fic again, so now I've got four Time Engraver stories up, two of them ZYLBY crossovers (this and this), and two of them not - last year's White and Marble, and this year's new one. Here it is:

Title: A Staircase, Winding Fandom: L'Oréal "Time Engraver" Commercials Characters: The Time Engraver, The woman who doesn't smile Rating: Teen Content tags: 2020 commercial, worldbuilding A/N:topaz_eyes asked about the change in setting/aesthetic between the commercials - here's one in-universe way it might work.
Summary:
The Time Engraver snaps his fingers. A laughing woman in a red dress, a cocktail in her hand, vanishes from his workshop with new crinkles around her eyes.
Another snap of his fingers; another woman appears - and the workshop changes around him.
