WooHoo! I got my ACD_Holmesfest prompt the other day and for once, I thought "hey, I can do this" which is unusual, because normally I spend at least a few days wallowing in a Slough of Despond about how I'll never be able to produce anything.

This morning, I kept darting for a pad of paper between barn chores and scribbling madly and by noon I had a fic. It had an opening, and dialogue, and a storyline, and a conclusion and everything.

So I put it away and we'll see how much I hate it in the morning.

Well, I went AWOL for most of the month of July.  I do apologise for not following through on the JWP exchange - looks like it was a really good one, too. 

I lost one of the horses in late June - Ariel, a mare that I bred and raised.  She colicked with a twisted gut and there was nothing we could do.  except send her to surgery, but since I didn't have a spare $20,000 (among other things) that wasn't  an option.  I was able to carry on for a few days, but then it just hit me like a ton of bricks and I spent most of July in a quivering mess.  I'm mostly OK now, but it's still a wrench when I see her empty stall. 

Anyway.

I wanted to spread the word that theacd_holmesfest  is about to start on DW.  Signups are open RIGHT NOW through August 13th.  I'm looking forward to a great round of classic Holmes fic.  Please consider joining in.  The 'fest has been on hiatus for the last year or so and this is our first edition on DW, but it's always been great fun with lots of wonderful fic and art, so c'mon over!

Whew!  I thought I'd lost this post.  DW does take some getting used to, but all is well.

I have been absolutely stuck on my Holmesfest fic for days and days. I had a good beginning and a thrilling conclusion, (sort of) but I couldn't get them there in any reasonable fashion. Finally, I figured it out just now, and about time, too.
So Yay! Color me a happy camper!

1. I had a meeting of my County Equine Alliance (which always sounds kind of Star Wars-y to me) this morning and we actually got some things accomplished.

2. I had a great ride on Evan this afternoon when I got back

3. I had an Idea today for my fic which looks like it might pan out.

MmmmKay.
I got my ACDHolmesfest assignment and I'm stoked mostly terrified, but hey, stoked! Does that still count? Sure, let's count it.
Today I had a great ride on Ariel. Someday, someone will get a picture of me on her, since I have exactly zero pics of me. Lots of pics of others (good and bad), but none of me.
I got several more rows of the September Sock done without any mistakes. Moving right along, ahead of schedule. Yay, me.

I thought the Holmesfest fic/art/podfic was just excellent this time around (like last time and the times before. I'm seeing a trend here.) What a treat to see all this classic stuff!

Today is the Big Reveal. If you haven't read/listened yet, amble on over there and let your favorite authors and artists know what a great job they did.

HAHAH. I should know better than to tempt Fate by posting anything like my last entry "Looks like I will have a story for the ACD_Holmesfest".
U-huh.
I wrote that about 2 hours before DH had the kidney stone, the touch screen on the tablet went west (have you ever tried typing without a 'T' character?), and we got 3" of rain in 24 hours.
DH is recovered from this attack, things have dried out (a little) and the digitizer on the tablet will be replaced under warranty. Thankfully, the Mods were kind enough to give me an extension, so the story got done a few days later. I'm still not totally happy with it, but well, we'll see what you guys think.

Oh thank goodness! It looks as if I might actually have a story ready to submit for the ACD Holmesfest. I have had to drag every word kicking and screaming on to the page all month, but finally, everyone seems to be behaving a little better.

Wasn't it Anthony Trollope who used to write 10,000 words every day before breakfast? More power to him. I'd settle for 10.

It's acd_holmesfest time coming up again! Sign-ups start February 9th through the 19th. Any pairing (or none) any genre, but all entries must be based on the universe created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
