Crowe's bare toes dug aimlessly into the deckplates of their shared quarters as he dried his hair. Arumat's feet were just as scarred as the rest of his body, small bones broken and rehealed. Crowe's were unmarked, small not just beside Arumat's armoured boots, but even the other humans in his crew.
Crowe flopped back on his bunk, and Arumat bent to cup his heel, thumb pressing into the ball of Crowe's foot until his toes spread and flexed. They tasted of recycled water and the strange copper-salt of human skin.
Crowe laughed, and hauled Arumat bodily into the bunk.
