Prompt Set #1

1.  Character Study Exercises

a.  In many cultures, foods have symbolic value.  For this exercise chose a food that your character might associate such a value to and write a piece involving this food and its value.  (Feel free to either use real lore regarding symbolic value, Trek lore or make up your own)

b.  Take the full name of your muse and only using the letters in his or her name, (although you may duplicate the letters as necessary- simply treat the letters in their name as the only letters in the alphabet) create a list of words.  Then, if feeling adventurous, take one or more of those words and use it as a prompt.

c.  Picture an object, any object.  Look around your own surroundings if you'd like or picture something your muse might come across.  Now, even if it isn't in your muse's nature, imagine that after coming across this object, they proceed to steal it.  Now, have your muse explain why they stole this object, where it was stolen from, how they stole it, were they caught?

d.  Write an acrostic poem describing your muse, using either your muse's name or something important to your muse.  An acrostic poem is one where each line starts with the letter of your muse's name (or significant object).  If you would like a bit more of a challenge, write a double acrostic poem- this is where the last letter in each line must also spell your muse's name or significant object.

2.  Quotes

a.  "To have one's individuality completely ignored is like being pushed quite out of life."  Evelyn Scott

b.  "This is space. It's sometimes called the final frontier. (Except that of course you can't have a *final* frontier, because there'd be nothing for it to be a frontier *to*, but as frontiers go, it's pretty penultimate...)" - Terry Pratchett

c. "I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system."- Jack Handey

d.  "Be wary of strong drink. It can make you shoot at tax collectors... and miss."  Robert Heinlein

9.  Philosophy 101

Teachings of Surak

a.  Time is a path from the past to the future and back again. The present is the crossroads of both.

Nam-tor wak vah yut s'vesht na'fa'wak heh pla'rak. I'wak mesukh-yut t'on.  (in Vulcan)

10.  Tarot Prompt

Slight variation for this prompt set.  Instead of naming a randomly drawn card and using its meaning and associated words as a prompt, you will draw three cards (if you don't have a deck, go here (three card spread), here (more than three cards, take your pick) or here to access one online- meanings of tarot cards here).  Using the meaning or association of each of these cards, you will write a piece.  The first card will be used to determine the problem your muse faces, the second card will be used to determine how your muse solves the problem and the third will be used to show what your muse has learned as they overcame the problem.

Welcome

Welcome to trek_muses, a prompt community for Trek muses.

Photobucket

This community is a prompt community for fic writers who have adopted a Trek muse or two. OC muses from the Trek world are also welcome. Prompts will be issued monthly. This community is modeled on the now defunct writers_muses and prompt lists will be similar in format.

Rules:

1. No drama. Keep drama and hate and discontent in your own journals. This is not the place. This is a place to have fun.

2. Trek Muses is similar and modeled after Writers Muses, but it is in no way affiliated with Writers Muses. If you have a muse community or Trek community you would like to affiliate with this one, send me a pm.

3. This community is open to all trek fandoms- TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, XI (Reboot). Muses can be character muses, real rerson muses, Trek book muses and especially OC’s are welcome.

5. RP is definitely encouraged and you may RP here or link to RP threads on your own muse journals.

The Muses

1. You can have as many muses as you like.

2. Duplicate muses of fandom muses are fine, there will be no claiming of muses.

3. That being said, duplicating an OC that is not your own is NOT ok. If you feel someone is duplicating an OC of yours, please contact me.

Tagging:
Please tag your posts with the following categories:  rating, series and character.  I have made tags for many Trek characters, but I know that I haven't got them all (particularly from Voyager and DS9).  Let me know if your muse does not have a character tag and I will make one.  I also plan on making author tags for folks (using the muse's LJ name).
