Anybody out there?

I've been neglecting this community way too long, despite some gentle nudging (*cough*ausmac*cough*), but I'm thinking maybe it's time to get things going again. Anyone still interested in reccing? Any stories are allowed to be recced, as long as they involve characters from the Star Wars prequels, and they haven't already been mentioned. We're looking for stories that could be considered classics; more recent stories are allowed, as long as they have that "classic" feel.

I'll take the first seven volunteers, assuming that many people are interested. If you volunteer, you'll be responsible for posting a rec on a certain day of the week for eight weeks. I'm thinking we'll start after the first of the year, since many people's schedules (including mine) get kind of nuts in December.

To see which stories have already been mentioned, see recs by author or recs by title.

Any questions or comments? Feel free to leave them here.

Noumena by Writestuff & Moonshine

Title: Noumena
Author: Writestuff & Moonshine
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Q/O
Warnings: None

Author's e-mail: writestufflee@mindspring.com moonshine71@juno.com
Link to story: NOTE - PDF: http://home.mindspring.com/~writes… (You can email Writestuff for a text version. The PDF version is a pain to read online.)

Reasons for recommending: This is a tremendously good hurt/comfort fic, with lots of layers that are slowly pulled back, through flashbacks and correspondence and current crises, to reveal the origins of Obi-Wan's trauma which are both complex and simple. The chararacterizations are lovely: Despite being almost overwhelmed by his pain and his certainty that he has lost everything, Obi-Wan remains strong and behaves as I feel a Jedi would -- this is no weepy adolescent, despite his occasional tears. Qui-Gon also, despite hurting for his lover and himself, is Jedi to the core. The descriptions near the end of how Obi-Wan perceives both the Unifying and Living Force are simply magnificent. This is a story of love, learning, and redemption, and it works on many different levels.

Fic Red: "World Enough and Time" by 'chelle

I should have posted a rec several weeks ago, but the ones I want to rec not on the usual archives are disappearing as the websites do.

I first read this story a very long time ago, probably when it was first posted, July 1999. I think it was within the first few months I started reading MA archive. Although it may border on mushy and be flawed, every so often I come back to it when I'm in the mush sort of mood that wants a happy, relaxed Q/O fic. It's the romantic in me. It makes me feel good in a happy, everything is alright in the world way.

Who Will Not See by Sleeps With Coyotes

Title: Who Will Not See
Author: Sleeps With Coyotes
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Q/O
Warnings: none

Author's e-mail: ciceqi@ciceqi.slashcity.com
Link to story: http://ciceqi.slashcity.com/See.htm

Summary: Obi-Wan has always seemed oblivious to his admirers, but all may not be as it seems.

Reasons for recommending: A quiet little story, this one has stuck with me through the years. I love a good first-time story anyway, but this one is structured so well, and has such a muted level of need running through it. It features Oblivious!Qui-Gon done really well, and the Jedi are portrayed as I like them, mature and wise and dispassionate, yet with a core of love in their hearts. And Qui-Gon's definition of love, which he tells to Obi-Wan, while not mentioning, of course, that Obi-Wan is the inspiration for it ... absolutely perfect: "It's...when you'll die for someone, but you're happier to live for them, to make them happy. When their happiness, their well-being, means more to you than your own. When you find yourself changing to fit them, but your changing is growth, not abandoning parts of yourself--and you can help them grow, as well. When...when you don't have to say anything. Love lives in the silences."

BTW, I also highly recommend "Noise" by this same author: http://ciceqi.slashcity.com/Noise.…

The Moonflower Festival by Emma Grant

Title: The Moonflower Festival
Author: Emma Grant
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Q/other, O/other(s), Q/O
Collapse )
Author's e-mail: emmagrant01@aol.com
Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/ar…

Summary: Qui-Gon takes Obi-Wan to an isolated planet for his 18th birthday, and there they learn something unexpected about themselves.

Reasons for recommending: I can't believe this is Emma's first attempt at slash. The writing is sensual and evocative, and the situation -- a great set-up for a first-time story -- lends itself to all kinds of hotness. There's a bit of angst and general misunderstanding (it turns out Qui-Gon certainly did NOT forget Obi-Wan's birthday), but overall the story has a lightness about it. Qui-Gon's (and the Council's) ready acceptance and encouragement of Obi-Wan's sexual explorations is refreshing. And Obi-Wan in a threesome .... yummy!

Meditations on a Moment in Time by Gail Riordan

Title: Meditations on a Moment in Time
Author: Gail Riordan
Rating: PG
Pairing: Q/O
Warnings: No spoilers, some implications, though. Lots of philosophy & introspection

Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: wander@dnai.com This is off the M-A archive, I don't know of any other...
Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/ar…

Reasons for recommending: Gail is one fabulous writer. I have read and re-read everything she has in the archive over and over. She has
the ability of taking cannon characters and giving them life within George's world. This gem is short but ful of emotion and
understanding of what it must be like to be Jedi. Thanks Gail!

Contagious by Helens

Title: Contagious
Author: Helens
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Obi-Wan/Siri
Collapse )
Author's e-mail: helens@queerasjedi.com
Link to story: http://www.queerasjedi.com/siri/fi…

Summary: After a long, tiring mission involving fertility rituals, Siri's frustration becomes contagious.

Reasons for recommending: First off, we don't have enough good het fic in this fandom, IMHO. I love slash, but I'm a heterosexual, so the thought of Obi-Wan getting all hot and bothered because Siri's going through a sexual meltdown is just ... guh. And Helens does such a great job making it all plausible, real, humorous, and hot at the same time. I especially like how Siri's assumptions about Obi-Wan's celibacy are WAY off base, and her gradual realization about just who Obi-Wan's last lover was. Finally, this fic deserves special recognition for the invention of the term "lickjob" which should enter the vernacular ASAP.

Reasons for recommending: I adore Jane St.Clair's work, and this one especially. Her style is beautiful, the meditative calm her stories exude is lovely and I just adore the way she can paint moods and scenes with language. I know I've recced her before, but it's worth reccing her again. I can't even say why I like this story so much, I just love the feel of it. There's a prequel to the story called "A Floating World", but you can read it independently.

Redemption on Bandomeer by TJ

Title: Redemption on Bandomeer
Author: TJ
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Q/O
Warnings: None
Author's e-mail, web site and/or LJ id: There is none listed at the M-A archive, so if someone knows of one, I will change it.
Link to story: http://www.masterapprentice.org/ar…

Reasons for recommending: This little angst fest is one of the few stories that I really want to kick Obi-Wan. It is a wonderful story
that highlights all of the struggles Qui and Obi go through to find each other again. It is one of the few angsty stories that I will read again and again.
