Toddlers Gone Wild

Welcome back to toddlersgonewld. Remember us? What happened to that toddler we had a few years ago? For most of us, those cute little toddlers are in school by now. And many of you probably have new little monsters driving you crazy.

Please feel free to post about your new toddler challenges, as well as the terrible trouble your "big kids" are getting into now.

I don't know about you, but we're having fun with school bullies, not paying attention in class, talking back, the child thinking he's smarter than mama & daddy, outgrowing shoes, wearing out/tearing up clothes, wallowing in mud puddles, refusing to eat anything but hotdogs and macaroni & cheese, defying bedtimes, denying there is any homework, and my personal favorite - telling the neighbors, teachers, babysitters and strangers in the grocery store anything and everything mama & daddy say or do in the privacy of our own home. The list could go on and on . . .

What's going on in your lives? Just because they're older doesn't mean they're any less trouble, or any less funny!

We have a few new members that I'd like to welcome.

I also realize that most of us who joined this community when it was initially created no longer have toddlers on our hands. Somehow - when we weren't looking - those kids grew up a little bit!

I'm not sure if I can do it, but I'm thinking of changing the name of this community to "bad kids" or something like that. Even if I can't change the name, please feel free to share the stories of your little ones' horrors.

If your child is anything like mine, we didn't run out of stories just because we outgrew toddlerhood. If anything, it's gotten even more challenging. So please share!

Anybody got any suggestions for good books to explain to children what a lie is? We have a HUGE problem here, and we've determined that the Litle Guy still doesn't understand the concept of lying. He knows it's a bad thing, but he doesn't know when he's doing it.

My 14 month old son got into a fight with Mickey Mouse.
We went to Disneyland on my birthday for my 4 year olds birthday (him 16th me 18th). It rained on his birthday but anyway. Cut to Mickey Mouse's house in Toon Town Disney, Anaheim, California. We're one of two families let in at a time. The kids get on to a small sort of stage on either side of Mickey to get their picture taken.

My 4 year old son is inside where he as a lot of room. My 14 month old son is on the edge. Mickey, big costume, moves a bit to make room but ends up knocking little guy off. My husband puts him back up. Keep in mind that my 4 year old is star struck out of his mind. Not shy. Star struck! The little guy gets knocked off again. He's not hurt but he is mad!

He climbs back up on stage himself and shoves Mickey then punches him in the nose! He is not a violent kid so we were all shocked. Mickey wasn't hurt. Kid wasn't hurt but boy it was funny.

It is our early morning. I have to get the oldest two to school early so I have to take the 3 year old with me which means I have to get him up early. Way too early for him.

He decided to pitch a fit. He screamed the entire time I was changing his diaper and he fought me getting him dressed. He kicked, he rolled, he balled up, he pulled away. At one point he got ahold of the underneath of his bed and he pulled himself under his bed.

The battle was epic. I won.

The Letter S is for his screaming - the # 3 is for his age and for the number he falls in the child ranking - he's the 3rd and my youngest.

That in order to get a 3 year old to nap (because if he doesn't he is nasty, evil, cranky, evil) you have to put up a child gate in front of the door to his bedroom and bribe him?

LOL!

Okay, my husband has managed to convince him to stop opening his bedroom door - however, NOW he wants to turn on his bedroom light - repeatedly.

I go in, I turn it off, I scoot him back into bed, I leave. I hear "pound pound pound" of feet and I go up the stairs and see his light is back on. I open his door and find that he has put his dirty laundry basket in front of his door.

My husband said that was an accident.

Once, I can see, after doing this dance repeatedly tonight, and the laundry basket being moved around the room by me and then my return to the room only to have it back in front of the door, no - he is putting it there on purpose to keep me out of the room. Not that it is that full, nor strong enough to keep me out.

*facepalm* This three year old is going to drive me bonkers before Christmas morning!!!

He has finally quit after this repeated dance of ours and me physically picking him up and making him lie down in his bed and covering him up - which caused angst and tears and OH WOE IS HE drama. I told him in a forceful tone he would NOT get up again, he would NOT turn on his light and he would NOT move that basket again.

The cries were loud, the wails of sorrow were - drama drama drama - crocidile tears - sniffle sniffle sniffle - snore. FINALLY!!!!

I just don't have the size and bulk and build of daddy to put the fear of God into them. I'm mom. They all three (11, 9 and 3) just tend to look at me. So for me to have to get to where I picked him up and put him into bed without him putting himself there, I think that threw him off. Which hopefully put the fear of at least MOM into him and kept him in bed.

But talk about wanting to pull your hair out! AAAAAAA Go to bed already!

I know, he's growing up - and I can't stop that - and I know I can't compare him to his older siblings who didn't give me this trouble at this age - no, I had to get a red head the third time didn't I? ;p LOL!!!!!

I love this kiddo - so very much - and this is an experience - it truly is - because as I just said, his siblings did NOT give me this trouble when they were this age.

And people ask if I'm going to have another one - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Roo is now 3. Over the last few days we have been getting together with family that we wouldn't otherwise see on Christmas day. The kids have been getting their gifts left and right.

My dad and step-mom especially spoil them and they make out like bandits. Unfortunately, to Roo, this means that ALL presents are HIS presents!

It doesn't help that his birthday was only five weeks ago either so that present feeding frenzy is also still fresh in his mind.

I have sat down and wrapped all gifts for our extended family - my sister and BIL and nieces and my mom and other sister and then my INs and a couple of friends we bought for. All of that is around the tree. I have the kids stuff still hidden and will wrap that and put that out Christmas Eve after they have gone to bed.

I'm online reading LJ and posting and reading emails and writing emails and surfing the web and Roo comes in to me and brings me what he proclaims are HIS presents - he has started UNwrapping gifts I had spent hours wrapping. I scream! My husband goes running. Roo freezes with a look of horror upon his face.

Its funny, but its not. I have had to rewrap gifts.

My mom said when he was at her house the other night he tried to unwrap the gift for his brother. He would peel at a corner and she would "at at at" him and he would quit but would stand there looking at it with his hands behind his back and he would rock back and forth and then when he thought she wasn't watching would try to peel more paper off and she would "at at at" him again. They did this dance for most of the time he was over at her house. She was vastly amused. He informed her that every present she had under her tree were "MY Presents." She informed him "I don't think so!"

LOL! Yes, fight with a 3 year old! We do it all the time. :)

Now we must gate him, to his chagrin (?sp) away from the living room and away from the presents. I don't have the big tree up so I can't put it into the middle of one of those large circular gates to keep him away from things. A baby gate in the hall does the trick, it ticks him off, but it does the trick.

And since I bought everything - shouldn't they be MY Presents? ;p LOL!

Operation Holiday Card is up and running again this year!  This is a wonderful program that distributes Christmas, Hanukkah, and holiday cards with short personal messages to troops deployed overseas during the holiday season.  This program was a huge success last year collecting over 16,000 cards.

            I am asking people to write a note to an unknown service member inside your card, seal it, and send it to the address below.  Cards can be for Christmas, Hanukkah (please write this on the back of your envelope), or general Season’s Greetings.  Your words of support mean so much to these men and women.  Remember each card you send is another service member touched.   

            This program works because individuals take this initiative to spread the word and collect cards with in their lives.  Please pass the word about this project to everyone you know.  Feel free to post it in your journals, other communities, promote it in your workplace, or your place of worship.  One woman from my church last year collected 200 cards in her workplace.             This year’s deadline will be Dec. 3, all cards must be received in Louisiana by that time.  The cards will need plenty of time to get overseas.  I thank you for your support of this wonderful project.  There is so much support for our troops as they spend the holidays away from their families.
