hello i'm jaybird also known as amperup or vader.
i'm from pinterest and i don't use autocorrect.
i'm a trans man & a demisexual lesbian (or lesboy i suppose)
I HAVE NO MONEY & ALMOST NO FOLLOWING
basic DNI's: LGBTQIA+phobes, racists, zionists, xenophobes, blogs dedicated to NSFW/NSFT content, (wip)
🇵🇸FREE PALESTINE🇵🇸

Hallo, I am Jaybird! This is my ✨new and improved✨ (albeit WIP) intro post! (link 2 the old one at the bottom!)

  • I am a trans man, I use it/its, he/him, cat/cats, and dog/dogs pronouns!
  • I am a butch lesbian! (lesboy, if you must,) as well as demiromantic & demisexual.
  • I own three cats! I'll post pictures of them occasionally :3
  • DNIs are in my bio, but they boil down to "don't be overly freaky or at all bigoted." However, I am often trigger-happy with the block user button & LOVE blocking tags!!! 🤪
  • I LOVE ASKS!!! If the button to send an ask is present, asks are VERY welcome!!! however i am bad at talking to people + tumblr asks are often glitchy for me, so replies can take anywhere from 1 minute to 1 century to arrive.
  • Mutuals: you may DM me if you'd like to continue a conversation we were having in a less public setting, but please note that i will get Scared and probably not respond to your first few messages for like a week. I cannot explain this behavior, but please be aware of & prepared for it. If we've already been talking in DMs, ignore this ur fine.
  • I am autistic & ADHD! I will be very blunt, opinionated, & stubborn, and will usually not understand when people are joking! I appreciate tone tags.
  • I know a tiny bit of German! I was learning via Duolingo, but quit because of them replacing real staff with AI.

Termination counter: 1

To keep this from being too long, I'll put a cut here. Fandom stuffs, tag key, oc info, and My Images are all below the cut!

a lot of ppl hate on ao3 for all the rape fics it has which is unfair for a lot of reasons, but the main one for me is that other fic sites aren't perfect either.

like most younger fic writers i was on wattpad before discovering ao3, and they had a lot of rape scenes or fics about rape.

and a lot of it went untagged too, with the reason (or the reason i think) being that a lot of them were intended to be smut scenes, but because wattpad is generally used by younger writers because it's easier to find for them, they just didnt know or realize that the smut they were writing was really rape or dubcon (u wuld not believe the amount of times a character got raped only for it to be seen as fine bc they ended up liking it)

so rlly, ao3 having more rape fics is less because it has more perverts (tho it does, but thats because there's more users and older/mature ones at that) and more because it has a way to properly mark and identify rape/noncon and because the people who do write it are aware that they're writing it

and even then, even with ao3 having more rape fics, so what? not every one is because the author is getting off to it. sometimes a character gets assaulted in canon and a fic writer wants to expand on that and address it, or the author has trauma they want to work through by putting a character thru it. and even if it's not those 2 reasons, so what?

ur allowed to dislike them, hate them, find it weird, whatever. but ur on a fic archive site. meaning it's purpose is to host the fanfic people write on it so it can be seen again in the future. if u wanna get mad at anyone get mad at the writer not the site, but that too is stupid and just a waste of ur time, so dont do any of that and only read and write what you like.

I'm probably gonna get yelled at for saying this but sometimes something isn't a real problem in fandom, you just learned a Japanese word describing a general fandom practice and got scared and decided it meant "The Bad Ones" of that practice

Whenever you see someone being like "we don't mind when women enjoy or even create m/m content, we just hate fujoshis" you are being racist. If you mean "I hate the way some female fans treat gay men like fetish objects" then say that, and we can have a conversation based on that, but "fujoshi" is, I cannot stress this enough, just a word for any woman who likes M/M content, for better or worse. It may have started out as a reclaimed insult (by the way, the insult was based on "liking gay shit makes you perverted and sinful," not "please respect the humanity of gay men") but it does not make a distinction between The Good Ones and The Bad Ones. You just decided to No True Scotsman it and that the English word for that should describe The Good Ones and the Japanese word for it should describe The Bad Ones

Same goes for the people I saw just the other day whose discord server explicitly disallowed "Yaoi" but said that M/M content was allowed. What they meant was "M/M content is allowed as long as it isn't pornographic and fetishistic." What they actually said was "M/M content is allowed, but M/M content is strictly forbidden," and expected you to understand that the Japan-Adjacent term has porn/fetish connotations while the English-language term for THE SAME THING refers to the "normal, non-perverted" version.

It'd be like if you used the word "cartoons" to refer to all Family-Friendly animation, regardless of style or country of origin, whether it's Japanese or American or French or whatever, and used the term "anime" to refer to all animated pornography regardless of style or country of origin. There's plenty of animated pornography that isn't Japanese! There's plenty of anime that's not pornographic! But this is the sort of thing you do when you say shit like "obviously women can read stories about gay men, but NO FUJOSHIS"

OP is correct and smart for saying this. this is related to/a subset of how people are about non-fandom foreign words, too, like how people say "Christians worship God (good), Muslims worship Allah (bad and scary)" when gues swh. gu. guess what. gues s w hat Allah mea. guess what the word "Allah" means--!!

All the wattpad news just sounds like a bunch of Puritans pulled up to a whorehouse, got out and yelled "OH MY STARS HOW DID WE SHOW UP TO A HOUSE FULL OF WHORES."

Except instead of the whores laughing them off the property, they give them the option for a series of g-rated activities they can do at the whorehouse. Like horseshoes. Or knitting.

seeing a lot of discourse on my dash about the wattpad/ao3 situation, and it is becoming increasingly clear that people really don't want to accept that there is no such thing as a universal morality hierarchy

there are sooo many ppl in the replies of these posts saying that they're fine with pretty much anything, except child sexual assault/pedophilia (none of them actually use the real words, but that's a problem i have already complained about extensively in a different post), and they treat that like it should be an obvious, universally held belief, and anyone who doesn't agree to censor those things is a disgusting monster, but couldn't i say the exact same thing about murder? or any violence, or rape, or abuse, or torture, or whatever the fuck. aren't those things also bad? so who exactly is ranking these taboos into what must be censored and what is just ok enough to get a pass?

once you start giving people authority to rank value judgements you start getting super puritanical super fast. that's how you get anti-lgbtqa+ laws. that's how you get abortion bans. that's how you get discrimination written into the literal law. partial censorship is not a thing, bc as soon as you allow for the censorship of one topic you open the door to the censorship of others, because you have no logistical leg to stand on. no matter how reprehensible you find a specific act to be, you cannot empirically prove that one is worse than another

i am not pro pedophilia, i am not pro the harm of others, but in an environment where the only victims are fictional and therefore unable to be harmed, i am very much pro freedom of expression. even if i think it's disgusting. even if it "glorifies" it. i don't know why people are so convinced that reading a fictional story that goes against their morals will suddenly make them change all their beliefs and go out and commit heinous crimes. i didn't watch breaking bad with the intention of making and distributing meth. i didn't watch hannibal for recipe ideas. if your personal values are so tenuous that a fanfic about gay anime characters having underage sex can turn you into pedophile, maybe consider that it's not the fictional story that's the problem here

there is no way to rank moral taboos in a way that is not immediately on the fast track toward authoritarianism, so if you are truly anti-censorship, you have to be okay with the things you hate the most still being allowed to be talked about freely. it is your responsibility to not engage with material that you don't approve of. you do not unilaterally get to decide for everyone else, because that's where the real harm comes in. no matter how good your intentions, any form of censorship is dangerous. so if you actually want to keep real actual people that exist in the world from harm, you need to let the fictional people in make-believeland get their shit fucked up in any and every way people decide. no exceptions
