The 26th International WACHAUmarathon on September 13, 2026, features a scenic, fast route through the UNESCO World Heritage site along the Danube. It offers marathon, half-marathon, and quarter-marathon distances. The event includes a "WachauJUNIORmarathon" and a race expo in Krems.

26th edition of the International WACHAUmarathon
This "weinmalig®" run through the World Heritage site has established itself as one of the country's most popular running events. It has done so for 26 years. A fast route, tailored distances, and a flexible relay competition lead right through the unique setting of the WACHAU.
The perfect mix of a unique backdrop, track conditions, atmosphere, and perfect organization: with this attractive combination, the "once-in-a-lifetime run through the World Heritage site" continues to influence the Austrian running scene to this day.
Along the Danube, the route passes picturesque vineyards and medieval villages through a world-famous region classified as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000.
In addition to the classic marathon (42,195 km starting in Emmersdorf) and half-marathon (21,1 km starting in Spitz), there is the quarter-marathon (11 km starting in Achleiten), which can also be completed as a 4-person team. Regarding the full distance, the WACHAUmarathon has been the only domestic marathon since 2011 to offer the possibility of competing in different relay team sizes of two, three, or four people.
Due to its topographic characteristics, the route is equally popular among elite and hobby runners. The low elevation differences, without significant climbs, allow for a continuous running rhythm that favors fast times for all levels.
