Hi! So I have a DC Original Character…
And I want to write DC Comics fanfics involving her, what’s a good way to proceed? She’s a trans, Jewish character that I want to implant into the Batman universe/DC Universe, but I’ve been out of practice writing stuff that isn’t for my own enjoyment.
Hmu with tips? c:
I'm actually a fan of the Bats, but only outside of Tumblr because the Batstans in this hellsite are straight up bullies toward their "fellow DC fans"
Like, it's one thing to write the Justice League as butthurt whiners but using the actual character tags when none of them have any individual lines/roles and saying "idc the contingencies are vital" turns what would be just another incorrect quotes post into smug disrespect toward the people who like those characters
This isn't some one-off incident either. Ask a fan of any non-Bat hero and they'll confirm that this kind of Batglazing pollutes their tags at least once a week. And god forbid they dare speak out against it, because then they get hit with a crowd of Batstans screaming "FUCK YOU DON'T LIKE DON'T INTERACT" and "IT'S JUST FOR FUN LEARN TO TAKE A JOKE" as if they're the ones in the wrong for not wanting to be forced to see posts that are actively hostile to them.
Genuinely, some of you never left behind that 1st grader mentality of "my superhero can beat up yours and therefore I am better than you deal with it" and it shows.
Mind you, most DC fans would probably agree in a civilized discussion that the contingency plans are necessary from a Watsonian* point of view- hell, there's even a comic where Hal outlines how he'd take down the Justice League if needed
Green Lantern Legacy: The Last Will and Testament of Hal Jordan
The problem is that Batstans don't want to have a civilized discussion. They see the contingency plans as a weapon to "prove" that Bruce is smarter or a better fighter or morally superior to everyone else and constantly beat us over the head with it like we're their competitors in some contest of whose superhero is more badass
Most of us don't care about such dick-measuring contests, and it's annoying as hell when the Batstans try to force that shit on us.
Also it's fucking hilarious that Tower of Babel was brought up in the notes like some kind of gotcha because in that story most of the Justice League actually agree that the contingency plans are a good idea!
Their issue isn't that the plans exist- it's that Batman keeping them a secret does more harm than good because it shows his lack of trust in his friends while taking advantage of their trust in him.
*From the Doylist perspective, the contingency plans are not necessary because superhero comics are a medium in which the good guys always win in the end. There have been many stories where heroes get hypnotized or forced to do evil but their friends and allies save the day regardless of whether they were prepared for that possibility or not.
