About Leith Kino at Leith Depot

This August, Argonaut Books and Leith Kino are joining forces for a special Book Fringe collaboration.

Join us inside Argonaut Books for a programme of evening screenings celebrating underappreciated films with literary connections. We've got feature length adaptations of acclaimed Japanese murder mysteries, 1960s Czechoslovak sci-fi, and star-studded, forgotten gems of North American counterculture.

Ikarie XB-1 (1963, dir. Jindřich Polák)

Czechoslovak Ikarie XB-1 (1963, dir. Jindřich Polák) is a loose adaptation of The Magellanic Cloud by the cult Polish writer Stanisław Lem (Solaris). As a crew journeys across the galaxy in search of new life, the film explores the limits of human knowledge and power. Ikarie XB-1 stunningly captures the dreams of the Space Age as well as the anxieties of the Cold War, and is regarded as a key influence on Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Tickets cost £6 and there are a number of free tickets available here for those not in a position to pay.

Please note that this screening will take place inside Argonaut Books (not Leith Depot).
