In sf at least: Cars are newer, nicer, and cleaner than uber x. Better comp is uber comfort, at least. And no driver means no tip, so that's an all-in price.
But yes, definitely not the cheapest option right now. Won't be for some time.
In LA, Waymos are often slightly less expensive than Uber/Lyft, seem to be less impacted by surge pricing at high demand times. (Anecdotal evidence only.)
