Had fun with these! That blue and silver piece, I ended up with exactly the number of jump rings left that I needed. Man, time to go restock. >.>

I sometimes go off topic here and tonight it is to mention that my musical love, Tim Blane, finally finally finally had a show in LA. And I actually got to be there! So that was a plus!

I just want to get out of the way that I was a dork and waved at him when he passed by the line as we were waiting to get in. My husband blinked and was like... I've never actually seen you fangirl out before. And I was like.... Um, shut your face. >.>

BUT ANYWAY.

So it was at this cute venue in Hollywood called The Hotel Cafe wiiith the biggest bouncer I've ever seen. And if you've never been to this venue, I suggest trying it out! It was good for me, because it's smallish, so no big crushing crowds (just a smaller... crushing crowd. Seriously, I had to elbow my way out of there when we were heading back to buy CDs) and everything was like... black and red, so I approve! And they played Me Being Me and Firecracker so I was super happy. But, of course, I like all his music, so they could have picked any set and I would be saying the same thing. <.< Shhh. (But seriously, Me Being Me is a super favorite. Getting to hear it live was a fantastic treat!) Seriously, if you haven't heard this music... you really need to look it up. I mean, they've done three albums now and there isn't even one song I don't love. And that has to be some kind of record. I love their sound, because it isn't stuck on one genre, one type. It's versatile and very smooth. There's stuff I cry to, and stuff I dance to and everything in between. But yeah! They were great live, and Tim was rockin' the jeans + tie look, which was cool. The only one I couldn't sing along to was an unreleased one from the upcoming album, which was a really good song too! So, yes, waiting semi-patiently for the album. Very semi.

Although, there was one other song I couldn't sing along to, lemme tell you the story. First of all, I premise this with the fact that I don't listen to the radio, so... I have no idea what's going on out there. So they start playing this song and I was like... okay, this is a little... different, but they do different sometimes and it's always gone okay before... and I look over at Viv who is on the floor laughing. And I'm like... Hey! It's not bad! >:| And she explains, it's this club song that's on the radio these days called Dynamite (I look up on youtube... says it's by Taio Cruz), but they, ya know, Tim Blane'd it. But, anyway, we were amused there.

So after, he announced there were CDs in the back and so back we went! And never mind that I've bought all his music already, I got this one signed, so it was warranted! Anyways, so we go back there, and there's a couple other people hanging out trying to figure out how we actually buy the CDs and the girl asked if we were friends of the band (they were friends of Tim's brother, who'd brought enough people to make it worth it for Tim to tell embarrassing childhood stories about him. That's love, folks) and I was like... haha no, I'm just a fan. So she straight up was like... I'm gonna go tell Tim to get back here.

And off she went! And sure thing, he came out and I was like... omg rad. And he gave us hugs, even to my husband who was like... I really thought he'd let me get away with a handshake. So extra points there, for Tim. Anyway, so he signed CDs for us (during which he asked if I liked to be called Sam or Samantha and really! I don't have a preference! But I don't think I managed to explain that eloquently and it came out more like... Sam. Samantha. I don't care! Whatever you like! Jhbdrfsjfhbeduj! So he used both. My cd says Sam (antha). Which my husband is now tempted to call me all the time. I proposed that I would have to be wielding a sword and/or casting a magic spell to warrant such a name. But then, he addressed Viv's with Viv (antha), so maybe there's a few of us magic sword spellcasting fantasy novel chicks running around. ANYWAY I can stay on topic.)

I'm not sure what I actually managed to get out in chatting with him, but I did pick up that he's moving to LA, so yay! More shows!

I add, my husband had to prompt me to get out of the way as there had formed a line behind us. >.>

So I was a bit of a dork. Here and there. <.<

(But totally worth it)

threadpirate: (hi there)

threadpirate: (crazy ideas)
So I've decided to try my hand at jewelry making! My sister was really supportive and gave me tools and chains and findings and beads and pendants and so on for christmas and this wednesday night! I am taking a class. I have a book, but it's very hard to ask a book questions, so I will be using the books as more of a supplement once I've got a handle on the basics.

I've always liked jewelry, and I get a lot of ideas. And always end up drifting toward the jeeewelry section at the craft stores and it's like... okay, time to find out if I can do something with this besides going 'ooooo pretty'. Sheesh. XD

Whaaaaaaaat

I'm making my friend a laptop sleeve for Christmas.

And I made it today.

And it one half inch too skinny.

Please excuse me while I bang my head against this wall over here. @.@

threadpirate: (cake!)
So last night, I was looking at Twitter and I see this message that Milo Ventimiglia was going to be at this Borders that is... well... sort of close enough to me to justify going. >.> And I called my friend Viv and was like... SO GUESS WHERE WE'RE GOING!

And she let me drag her around. :D

Anyways, so the boys from DiVide Pictures were doing this talk over Berserker and Rest, which are comics for those who don't know, and it was really interesting. They talked about the challenges they've faced getting into this business being independent publishers as they are, and the business red tape and such things that seem to put the brakes on some projects.  I really appreciated their honesty about the difficulties, and the encouragement that those difficulties can be handled if you know how to do it. And do your research. And get to know people. Whew.

They also talked about the process of taking an idea and turning it into a comic. And the artist, Rick was his name, talked about the symbolism in the art in Berserker, and how in depth they take their research... he works with the National Academy of Sciences, which I think is pretty cool as well as being an awesome resource to tap.

What else, what else...

They were pretty much awesome, the audience had a lot of questions and everything... they ended up talking about things like how Russ Cundiff is a foodie and told embarrassing stories about him in Miromoto's restaurant in NYC... and how MV is into photography.

Ironically, my friends thought everyone would ask about Heroes, but no one did. It came up in conversation but peripherally. One person did ask about Gilmore Girls, though. XD

Anyways! The talk was about an hour, then we went on to the signing, which was also cool. I brought a print out of the cover page of Walking on Broken Glass and a poster Caytlin had drawn for MV since she wasn't around to go to the talk herself. And he and Russ both liked the art! They were really sweet about me shoving the comic at them, as well as the fact that I'd brought a gift. I got books signed, too, of course! And Viv and I chatted with them a little and took pictures and it was an all around good time.

So.

That's the story of why I'm glad I gave in and got a twitter.

Short story goes... I got a camera from my sister when she got a better one. However. I had no camera bag for something as skinny as my camera is, so I had to make one. Quick and easy!

Can be seen... threadpirateclothing.deviantart.com/#/d31h5ov  and... www.threadpirateclothing.com/ as always. >.>

threadpirate: (question time)
I have one. It was once a dirty clothes hamper, but it's been commandeered and converted to the thing that holds all my projects. Sometimes, these are half-done projects that got halted for one reason or another, sometimes they're cuts of fabric and a pattern that I plan to make sometime in the future.

Thing is? I don't seem to make it through that bin ever. I mean, there's stuff in there that's been in there for years. I tend to finish a project, start a new one... but not a new one from the bin. Slightly crazy? Perhaps. It's just an odd quirk I realized today, as I had finished altering a wedding dress, looked at my project bin... and proceeded to start a whole new project that's never seen the bin.

Creativity, what a fickle mistress!

That is... not the green tunic-clad, sword wielding Link, alas.

But nonetheless! I have here with me... a list of links! *fanfare*

They're all to me in various places, so. Take that as you will. >.>
