I love their relationship, both gen and romantic takes on it. I would really love magical realism/supernatural touches for them, with the bat actually being a magic weapon that connects them, Sting knowing when Darby is hurting or discouraged, Sting showing up at the exact moment Darby needs him most the way he did during the match with Mox, etc. They’re a natural ship for accidental soulbonds that neither intended but neither also are too upset about. Maybe Sting has to time travel to convince his own younger self not to give up on wrestling, because he knows something awful happens to Darby if he’s not there? I would also love anything around their significant face paint, especially in a h/c context - Sting helping Darby with his face paint when Darby’s too banged up to do it himself, or cleaning him up after a hard match, or just brain storming designs? Maybe Sting can feel Darby’s pain when they’re both painted up, and uses that to help him?
For ship fics I love Sting feeling guilty about being so attracted to someone more than young enough to be his son - him trying to force his feelings to be paternal or just mentorship, but then Darby looks at him and Sting can’t say no (meanwhile Darby has never thought twice about Sting’s age - of course he wants Sting to fuck him into next week, who wouldn’t?) I love Sting worrying about Darby pretty much all the time but knowing Darby won’t listen to him just steeling himself to put Darby back together when he needs it.
Jon Moxley/Claudio Castagnoli (AEW)
These two have known each other FOREVER, since they both had hair and were trying to scratch and claw their way up the ladder. I love Claudio being Moxley’s rock, the one who settles him after hard matches and fondly listens to Mox talk himself out when he needs to and fucks him up against the wall when he needs that. Post match moments, snapshots through the years, Claudio patching Mox up after hard matches, Claudio telling terrible dad jokes to keep Mox awake, they’re great soft touchstones for each other’s hard lives. (if Renee appears in the fic, I like her being aware and cool with things)
Toni Storm&/Orange Cassidy (AEW)
This is a brand new ship that will probably be still developing as the exchange goes on but I love them already. They’re SO into each other - Orange may be barely awake most of the time but Toni sure does like it when he wakes up! I would love h/c for them, Orange is so good at getting beat up - Toni having Luther peel him off the canvas and cart him back to the penthouse after Orange almost gets killed in a match and tenderly patching him up, maybe complete with screwball tropes to keep Mina from finding out. I would also love Toni leading Orange into a whole noir adventure and Orange rolling with it - like sure, of course there’s audible narration in Toni’s house, why wouldn’t there be?

I love these two so much - there’s never been a more natural fit of “we had such a good match that it created a soulbond.” I would love anything with them from the lead up to Double or Nothing up through now - the immediate aftermath of the match, the winner’s room, Hangman not being able to process how Will could be friends with Swerve, Will being shaken up after the Death Rider caught them that one time, Will sitting up with Hangman that night after the “they’ll have to kill me, Will” incident and everything in between. I love Hangman being so out of practice having friends and Will effortlessly getting past his walls. I would also be very into Hangman trying to keep tabs on Will while he’s out injured, keeping him caught up on goings on, etc. I love Will calling him Cowboy. I would also be very into Will’s injury being worse in ficland than it was in real life and Hangman being compelled to do something to do something about it, whatever it takes. I am also very very into Hangman finding out that Will had a ROUGH winner’s room after the cage match with the War Dogs and slowly unraveling over it.

This is another ship with years and years of history to play with. The aftermath of the tack superkick incident just begs for h/c fic, as does the aftermath of their title match. They’re just so obviously fond of each other, Will is such a soft spot in Swerve’s hardass exterior. I’d love Swerve not being able to break the habit of looking out for Will and him losing it with guilt when the Death Riders took Will out at Forbidden Door. Fic where Swerve still sees Will as the skinny, too cocky for his own good teenager he was when they met and to Will Swerve is still the coolest person in the room no matter how many years have gone by is the best.
"Hangman" Adam Page/Swerve Strickland | Isaiah Scott (AEW)
It has been a JOURNEY with these two, huh? I love how after everything they’ve done to each other we hardly ever see them have to talk to each other, they just know what the other’s thinking. It’s so interesting how Hangman takes the lead when talking and promos but seems to follow Swerve’s when they’re acting - does he not fully trust himself around Swerve still? Is he just going with the flow because fuck if he knows what’s going on between them, forget explaining it to anyone else? My favorite read on them is that Swerve knows EXACTLY what’s up and what he wants while Hangman is confused and angry and angry about being confused - he doesn’t know why he’s drawn to Swerve, but at least he’s given up fighting that he is. I love a Swerve who still loves pushing Hangman’s buttons and Hangman’s limits, who gets off on pain and on Hangman being the one inflicting it, to seeing if he can get just a touch of that madness back in Hangman’s eyes without pushing him all the way over. I love Hangman feeling shaky and guilty whenever he and Swerve are done with each other but still going back for more the next time. I love Swerve getting off on watching Hangman string people up and choking them out with the chain because he’s fantasizing about Hangman doing the same to him in the back once the match is over.

Swerve and Hangmen love Will so much they’ll even put up with each other for him! I love Will being a buffer between the two of them, knowing full well that’s what’s going on. I love Swerve and Hangman putting aside their hatred when Will’s in trouble and needs them. Hangman blundering into some painful part of Will’s history and Swerve having to clue him in would be wonderful. I would love the three of them being connected with an unexpected three way soul bond - the Death Riders or the War Dogs stalking Will in all of their dreams and the other two having to save him. I would also be very into Swerve and Hangman putting on a show for Will while he’s home hurt.

Clark Connors/Daiki Nagai (New Japan Pro-Wrestling)
These two were so much fun during Junior Tag League! Love Clark trying to corrupt young Daiki and Daiki…maybe not minding so much? I would love Clark making a pass at Daiki, assuming that was on the table since they were tagging and Daiki getting super into his own head about it - does he want it? SHOULD he want it? Would also love Daiki beating him himself up about their poor record, since he knows Clark would do better with an experienced partner, or Daiki getting himself worked up about the rumors that Clark might be wrapping up in NJPW and shooting his shot while he can, or Daiki watching Clark get beat up in that match in the finals and about coming out of his skin about it. Anything about poor young lion Daiki trying to improve as a young lion and do his best but Clark is the most beautiful man he’s ever seen and he fell asleep in Daiki’s bed what does he DO?? (maybe he calls Hiromu or Tsuji or, in the ultimate bad idea, Shingo for advice?)
David Finlay/Gabriel Kidd (New Japan Pro-Wrestling)
I love how GRABBY Finlay is with Gabe and how Gabe seems to really like it - he’s always grabbing Gabe’s face or curling his hand around Gabe’s head and it’s extremely good. They’re another ship with history - they teamed together back when Gabe was still a young lion, before and during Gabe’s breakdown, and how after that Finlay picked him and had faith in him. I love Finlay fully expecting Gabe to turn on him someday and knowing it’s stupid to let him past his walls but having a weak moment and doing it anyway, or going into paranoid spirals about Gabe’s Death Rider loyalties. I would love Gabe cheering Finlay up after the Dontaku cage match, reminding him the night really was theirs, or being the one who knows the boss is hurting worse than he’s letting on.
David Finlay/Hiromu Takahashi (New Japan Pro-Wrestling)
And these two were so much fun in World Tag League! I loved watching Finlay grow on Hiromu like a fungus. Maybe Hiromu realizes deep down he kinda likes Finlay being able to toss him around like a sack of potatoes? Finlay also got pretty grabby with Hiromu’s hair and that was a lot of fun to watch. Maybe Hiromu gets taken off guard when Finlay takes care of him after a long match of using him as a weapon, having forgotten that Finlay has in fact been in very successful tag teams before and knows how this is supposed to go? Maybe Hiromu assumes (rightly or wrongly!) that Finlay and Tsuji are fucking and realizes he’s a little jealous about it. Or Hiromu knows he falls in love with all his tag team partners and rivals and is frustrated that yes, this is staying true to form? They’re just fun.
Ishikari Taichi/Zack Sabre Jr. (New Japan Pro-Wrestling)
That NJC was one of my matches of the year, the EMOTION! Taichi loves Zack so much and every time they’re around each other all those emotions come out. I would love anything with them - Taichi falling in love with young, FRUSTRATINGLY brilliant ZSJ back in NOAH, them tagging and being the best team in the world, Taichi watching Zack reach the very heights of the company without him and believing in his heart that he’d been holding Zack back all that time they’d been tagging. I love Taichi knowing Zack better than anyone - maybe Zack gets a scary injury while Taichi is on commentary? Maybe he has a nightmare about Zack and goes to his room despite himself? Or he gives Fujita and Oiwa advice on how to put Zack back together after hard matches, and Zack gets wind that Taichi is still trying to look out for him and decides to cut out the middleman? And again, anything Dangerous Tekkers related is so welcome I loved that team so much.
Will Ospreay/Takahashi Hiromu (New Japan Pro-Wrestling)
This is my throwback forever ship, I will take anything from when they were rivals up until now - flirting on twitter, cooking for each other (canon) all of it, I love them. Did Hiromu politick to get that Forbidden Door match because he knew something much more was up with Will than he was saying? How uncomfortable WAS it for Robbie Eagles when he was teaming with Will right when Hiromu came back and they only had eyes for each other? I also have a huge weakness for fic set when Jay took over CHAOS and Will having a Very Bad Time and Hiromu not being able to do anything because he’s out hurt.

Grouping these together because Yota Tsuji loves fighting him some War Dogs and loves fighting these two in particular. I love the idea that Tsuji has been hard up for Gabe and especially Finlay since his young lion days (and in fact teamed with them both once back then,) him getting frustrated on the sidelines watching Finlay go through hell with Jay and get betrayed by Juice. I would love Tsuji having their nightmares with them because he’s fought them so many times. Did Tsuji and Finlay cement their truce by spit roasting Gabe? Did Tsuji ever guiltily watch Gabe and Finlay fucking in the locker room after a match or listen through hotel walls and burn up with jealousy? How long did he watch Finlay as a young lion and dream about what would happen once they were finally on the same level? How much shit does Hiromu give Tsuji about how badly Tsuji wants to fuck one or both of these lunatics? (Hiromu knows how it goes.) Was there perhaps a three way sex bet around who did what in Tag League? Sure could be! How many people try to tell Tsuji that Finlay obviously has ulterior motives, as if Tsuji wouldn’t be disappointed if that wasn’t true? I would also love Gabe and Tsuji hatefucking as they get on each other’s nerves during WTL.

Chris Brookes/Zack Sabre Jr (DDT)
Different can’t keep apart hearts that are aligned! I love how their careers keep circling each other where they come together and then part again, usually kissing in the process. Christ wants so much to measure up to ZSJ and Zack is baffled about why on earth Chris would think they already don’t. I would love Fujita and Masada trying to set up their wrestle dads/locking them in a room until they stop fighting, or on the opposite end Zack getting a scary injury and Chris getting incredibly shaken up. Or just them going on a nice date (instead of strategically dating refs/faction members for match advantage)
Stargirl
Charles McNider/Richard Swift (Stargirl)
I love all the hints we get of their connection and backstory - Charles believes in the Shade so much, how did that happen? I would love any and all backstory, I love JSA/ISA set fics with these two becoming more than just enemies (how did Charles find out about the Men of Tears? When did Shade first find out about Charles’ eyes and his tragic backstory?). The night with the absinthe is also a fic setting I could never get sick of. I would also love fic set with Charles meeting meeting Jade and Obsidian - maybe the Men of Tears catch up with the Shade, or other old enemies catch up with them (what OF Gentleman Ghost, right?) Maybe Alan comes back from the dead to a very different world? I love Shade being creative with his powers. I also prefer to believe Charles was lying about his current state of renewed domestic bliss (ten years is a long time to be dead.)
Human Target
Christopher Chance/Guerrero
My favorite show taken before its time. I love jobs gone wrong, Chance and Guerrero both being hyper competent, Guerrero enjoying letting people underestimate him. I always get very weak for Guerrero getting hurt/captured and Chance going to dark places about it. This is another ship that is rich with backstory, from the two of them being active in the organization to how Guerrero wound up washing up at Chance’s door. I am fine with fic set in either season!
TombstoneWyatt Earp/Doc Holliday (Tombstone 1993)
I love pre-movie fic for these two - how they met (no need to stick to history, the movie doesn’t,) the two of them meeting up in various cities, how that friendship grew. I would love the two of them having a sense when the other is in trouble, or Wyatt overhearing someone new in town say how ol’ Doc Holliday got plugged two towns over and Wyatt races out to get to him, or the two of them holed up in an abandoned homestead after a gunfight or during a storm. I love Wyatt knowing Doc’s probably going to go before him and it playing on his mind, and not wanting to lose Doc until he absolutely has to. I would also love post-movie fic with Wyatt on his film sets with his celebrity friends and Doc amicably haunting him.

Paul Morgan/James (Weapons 2025)
This is the exception to the noncon DNW, this ship is noncon city. I would love the two of them waking up in the afterlife with only each other, still tied together, and hating each other and every second. Make Paul the biggest hypocrite in the world, where what he’s doing to James is James’ fault. I would also be very into AU fic where nothing supernatural at all happened to them and they just…continue as they had been, with Paul descending further and further into corruption and takes it out on James until Paul is having a nice domestic life with James locked up in his basement. Aggressor Paul only, make him as awful and self-justifying as your heart desires.
DC Extended Universe
Carter Hall/Kent Nelson (DCEU)
These two are WONDERFUL and definitely my favorite part of their movie. I would love fic set during their JSA days, with them fighting big enemies and falling in love doing it. I really like Carter having reincarnation angst even though it doesn’t come up in the movie, and I really enjoy Nabu verging on cosmic horror. I like Kent beginning to feel his age and not expecting Carter to be attracted to him, and Carter thinking that’s nuts, look at him. I love Kent’s magic being both marvelous and destructive to him and Carter being torn up watching him in pain. And of course bring on the fix its, please bring that old man back to life.

Maybe Hiromu gets taken off guard when Finlay takes care of him after a long match of using him as a weapon, having forgotten that Finlay has in fact been in very successful tag teams before and knows how this is supposed to go? Maybe Hiromu assumes (rightly or wrongly!) that Finlay and Tsuji are fucking and realizes he’s a little jealous about it. Or Hiromu knows he falls in love with all his tag team partners and rivals and is frustrated that yes, this is staying true to form? They’re just fun.

That NJC was one of my matches of the year, the EMOTION! Taichi loves Zack so much and every time they’re around each other all those emotions come out. I would love anything with them - Taichi falling in love with young, FRUSTRATINGLY brilliant ZSJ back in NOAH, them tagging and being the best team in the world, Taichi watching Zack reach the very heights of the company without him and believing in his heart that he’d been holding Zack back all that time they’d been tagging. I love Taichi knowing Zack better than anyone - maybe Zack gets a scary injury while Taichi is on commentary? Maybe he has a nightmare about Zack and goes to his room despite himself? Or he gives Fujita and Oiwa advice on how to put Zack back together after hard matches, and Zack gets wind that Taichi is still trying to look out for him and decides to cut out the middleman? And again, anything Dangerous Tekkers related is so welcome I loved that team so much.

This is my throwback forever ship, I will take anything from when they were rivals up until now - flirting on twitter, cooking for each other (canon) all of it, I love them. Did Hiromu politick to get that Forbidden Door match because he knew something much more was up with Will than he was saying? How uncomfortable WAS it for Robbie Eagles when he was teaming with Will right when Hiromu came back and they only had eyes for each other? I also have a huge weakness for fic set when Jay took over CHAOS and Will having a Very Bad Time and Hiromu not being able to do anything because he’s out hurt.

Grouping these together because Yota Tsuji loves fighting him some War Dogs and loves fighting these two in particular. I love the idea that Tsuji has been hard up for Gabe and especially Finlay since his young lion days (and in fact teamed with them both once back then,) him getting frustrated on the sidelines watching Finlay go through hell with Jay and get betrayed by Juice. I would love Tsuji having their nightmares with them because he’s fought them so many times. Did Tsuji and Finlay cement their truce by spit roasting Gabe? Did Tsuji ever guiltily watch Gabe and Finlay fucking in the locker room after a match or listen through hotel walls and burn up with jealousy? How long did he watch Finlay as a young lion and dream about what would happen once they were finally on the same level? How much shit does Hiromu give Tsuji about how badly Tsuji wants to fuck one or both of these lunatics? (Hiromu knows how it goes.) Was there perhaps a three way sex bet around who did what in Tag League? Sure could be! How many people try to tell Tsuji that Finlay obviously has ulterior motives, as if Tsuji wouldn’t be disappointed if that wasn’t true? I would also love Gabe and Tsuji hatefucking as they get on each other’s nerves during WTL.

Different can’t keep apart hearts that are aligned! I love how their careers keep circling each other where they come together and then part again, usually kissing in the process. Christ wants so much to measure up to ZSJ and Zack is baffled about why on earth Chris would think they already don’t. I would love Fujita and Masada trying to set up their wrestle dads/locking them in a room until they stop fighting, or on the opposite end Zack getting a scary injury and Chris getting incredibly shaken up. Or just them going on a nice date (instead of strategically dating refs/faction members for match advantage)

I love all the hints we get of their connection and backstory - Charles believes in the Shade so much, how did that happen? I would love any and all backstory, I love JSA/ISA set fics with these two becoming more than just enemies (how did Charles find out about the Men of Tears? When did Shade first find out about Charles’ eyes and his tragic backstory?). The night with the absinthe is also a fic setting I could never get sick of. I would also love fic set with Charles meeting meeting Jade and Obsidian - maybe the Men of Tears catch up with the Shade, or other old enemies catch up with them (what OF Gentleman Ghost, right?) Maybe Alan comes back from the dead to a very different world? I love Shade being creative with his powers. I also prefer to believe Charles was lying about his current state of renewed domestic bliss (ten years is a long time to be dead.)

My favorite show taken before its time. I love jobs gone wrong, Chance and Guerrero both being hyper competent, Guerrero enjoying letting people underestimate him. I always get very weak for Guerrero getting hurt/captured and Chance going to dark places about it. This is another ship that is rich with backstory, from the two of them being active in the organization to how Guerrero wound up washing up at Chance’s door. I am fine with fic set in either season!

I love pre-movie fic for these two - how they met (no need to stick to history, the movie doesn’t,) the two of them meeting up in various cities, how that friendship grew. I would love the two of them having a sense when the other is in trouble, or Wyatt overhearing someone new in town say how ol’ Doc Holliday got plugged two towns over and Wyatt races out to get to him, or the two of them holed up in an abandoned homestead after a gunfight or during a storm. I love Wyatt knowing Doc’s probably going to go before him and it playing on his mind, and not wanting to lose Doc until he absolutely has to. I would also love post-movie fic with Wyatt on his film sets with his celebrity friends and Doc amicably haunting him.

This is the exception to the noncon DNW, this ship is noncon city. I would love the two of them waking up in the afterlife with only each other, still tied together, and hating each other and every second. Make Paul the biggest hypocrite in the world, where what he’s doing to James is James’ fault. I would also be very into AU fic where nothing supernatural at all happened to them and they just…continue as they had been, with Paul descending further and further into corruption and takes it out on James until Paul is having a nice domestic life with James locked up in his basement. Aggressor Paul only, make him as awful and self-justifying as your heart desires.

Carter Hall/Kent Nelson (DCEU)
These two are WONDERFUL and definitely my favorite part of their movie. I would love fic set during their JSA days, with them fighting big enemies and falling in love doing it. I really like Carter having reincarnation angst even though it doesn’t come up in the movie, and I really enjoy Nabu verging on cosmic horror. I like Kent beginning to feel his age and not expecting Carter to be attracted to him, and Carter thinking that’s nuts, look at him. I love Kent’s magic being both marvelous and destructive to him and Carter being torn up watching him in pain. And of course bring on the fix its, please bring that old man back to life.
