A New Stage Musical about adventure, rivalry, love, and intrigue in New Orleans' French Quarter

THIS STRANGE PARADISE

A young man, WINN, while wandering through the French Quarter of New Orleans, rescues a streetwalker, BOURBON BETTY, from the vicious pimp JACQUES REZAY, and they seek refuge in a club called The Paradise. The club's owner, NAPOLEAON DUMAS, allows The Paradise to be used as a sanctuary for those in need of it. This sets off a turf war between the pimp Rezay and Dumas amid intrigue, romance, treachery, jealously, and violence.

Emily Dumas appeals to her father to be merciful to the gang of thugs who invaded the Paradise Club.

Napoleon Dumas overhears his daughter Emily and Winn having a melancholy conversation about life and death,

so he provides them with this sage advice.

Emily describes the conflict between her obligations

It's Good To Have Some Politicians in Your Pocket (sung by Dumas & chorus w/intro by Betty)

To the surprise of his friends, Dumas is able to repel an assault on the Paradise Club by a mob led by the vicious pimp Jacques Rezay. Dumas then shares the one of the secrets of his success.

Get It Together (sung by Emily)

After Winn explains to Emily that he is torn between his love for her and his fear that he may be leading her into a life of uncertainty and risk, she makes her feelings abundantly clear to him.

Power (sung by Jacques Rezay)

The villainous pimp Jacques Rezay describes his motivation.

This Prayer For My Love (sung by Winn)

As Emily's life is in grave danger, Winn expresses himself with this prayer.

A Far, Far Better Thing (sung by Betty)

Betty has disguised herself to free Emily Dumas from captivity, but at a heavy price.

Hero Of My Own Story (sung by Jacques Rezay)

At the final confrontation between Dumas & Rezay, the pimp explains his distorted view of the world and his place in it.

This past June, an abridged version of THIS STRANGE PARADISE, featuring 15 songs from the show, was performed at the world famous El Mocambo in Toronto, Canada, which has featured bands like The Rolling Stones, Blondie, The Ramones, Lou Reed, The Guess Who and many of the biggest names in music.
