Recommendations please!

I've lived here all of my life and always seem to go to the same places, which are awesome but I want to explore more.

My partner lives here but is from another province so I want to introduce him to some neat places in Hamilton.

Please recommend:

-- coffee shops
-- tea shops
-- restaurants - ANY kind!
-- pubs/bars/places for drinks
-- cool things to do

Current favourites are: most places on Locke St, Collins, Thirsty Cactus, La Cantina, La Luna, Augusta St, Splitsville, Bean Bar, My Dog Joe.

THANKS!!!!!!! :)

volunteering

Have any of you ever (in the past or currently) volunteered for animal-related causes? like at shelters, animal hospitals, and the like? I'm trying to get into it, emailing different organizations to see if they have vacancies, but I haven't heard back from any of them. I know it can be hard to get into for various reasons, so if you've been lucky enough to get in, please share with me with your experiences.

I have ripped apart my back yard and need someone to cut it all down and put it into brown bags.

Anyone know where I could find this magical person?

I don't know any teenagers but am looking to pay someone to do it.

Thanks.

temporary housing/shelters??

I know someone from out west who came back to Hamilton for a funeral, but is considering staying here longterm and working. He's staying with family but cannot really stay past Jan 6 and would need a place to stay between then and Feb 1.

Just wondering if anyone is familiar with Hamilton-area shelters or places offering temporary housing (or a cheap motel - or something) for someone for about 3.5 weeks, that are safe?

Thx and happy new year! :)

Anyone work out at Premier?

I joined last week because I get a huge corporate discount.

I'm going this week to get set up but can't decide between Upper James or Upper Wentworth.

Anyone been to them? I know I can go to either but I have to choose one as my "home" location.

Thanks.

Urban Exploration Photography, Theatres, and Cinemas

So, I'm visiting my family in Hamilton with my new boyfriend in tow. He's really into photographing cities, and I'm looking for ideas on where to take him. A few of his favorite subjects:
-urban exploration
-industrial settings
-art deco architecture
-theatres
-buildings that used to be movie palaces or theatres

His photographs have appeared in a gallery show and have been bought for a few publications, although this is really a hobby for him. You can see his work on Flickr here:

Part time work: Transcription? Respite Care?

I recently moved out on my own and am kind of broke.
I'm looking into getting a part time job. I'm a teacher so it would have to be on evenings and weekends. I am kind of picky though, because it can't be too demanding or stressful and take away from my full-time job, and I also have other things I'm committed to (volunteering).
What would be ideal is something flexible where you can work from home - such as transcription (I type very fast!). A friend of mine did this before. Does anyone know of transcription places that may be hiring part time?
Another thing I'm looking into is respite care. I know an organization that hired for this in Guelph, but I haven't lived in Hamilton a long time so am not familiar with what is here.
Or if you have any other ideas feel free to throw them my way.
Thanks. :)
