Yummy again.

After being away from home for nearly three months, it's nice to finally be back in my own kitchen!

Today, I made my own refried black beans! And then I made a toasted wrap with the beans, avocado, and some feta cheese. It was pretty good, but the feta made it a little bit too salty for me, so next time I will use a plain goat cheese instead.

soup!

I'm not usually a fan of premade soups in cans and things, but this one was amazing!

Pacific Foods "Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato"

I am definitely going to try their other flavours!

I can't go no (satisfaction)..

There are a few great and cheap Asian grocery stores around me, and only one not-so-great and not-so-cheap one near my parents. In anticipation of my visit, my mum solicited me to do her grocery shopping.

I got distracted from her shopping list.. I was also feeling adventurous, and decided to get this Szechuan sauce mix that looked interesting. My roommate had left me some delicious brown rice that she made, and my other roommate had a tub of tofu that was going to expire in a few days, so I decided to put them all together...

My roommate and I were talking about how it's so much more expensive to buy frozen french fries compared to making your own. It's also much less tasty to do that. All that talk of potatoes made me hungry...

Greasy Goodness

Junk food entry!

So, I went to Merry Ann's Diner with a couple of friends because they opened up a second location and we wanted to try it. I never went to the first location because it looked kinda dirty from the outside, and I'm not really into diner food, anyway.

The restaurant was really cute, and pretty much set up like an old fashioned diner. The prices weren't too high, and I got the best grilled cheese sandwich that I've ever had at a restaurant (btw, the worst was at Steak & Shake).

Gardenburger came out with microwave dinners a few months ago.. they're not usually something that I would buy, but they were on special and I had been thinking about meatballs for a while, so I bought one! It was actually rather tasty, but the penne wasn't nearly as good as if it were fresh (though frozen pasta has never really sounded appetizing to me).

A random purchase I made while shopping with my Jon turned out to be surprisingly yummy... These "Spinach Munchees" appear to be spinach and cheese pizza rolls, except they are made with soy cheese and whole wheat flour. The junky unhealthiness seems to be a lot of the appeal to pizza rolls, but I bought them anyway. I was scared to try them, and even forgot they were in the back of my freezer for a while. After an invigorating run with my roommate, we raided the kitchen; I was pleased to find these hidden in our freezer, and more pleased that they only needed ten minutes in the oven! I don't remember how much they were, but they were really yummy, so I think you should be brave and try them, too!

Another convenience food that I enjoyed a lot were Dominex Eggplant Cutlets. Basically, it's eggplant parmesean... they are really yummy! I ate them on a sandwich once, and as an entree another time, and they were really good. I think they whole box was $4, and I've had three or four meals so far, and there are still a few cutlets left. If you see them in the store, you should try them!!
