Just found this gem on CNN of all places...

Pat DiNizio is CRAAAA-ZZZZZY!
(CNN) -- Twenty-one CDs? 511 tracks? Only $100? And it comes with a rhinestone and stud setter?

OK, that last part is made up. But the Smithereens' Pat DiNizio is offering a bargain that will bring a smile to any music fan's face. "The Smithereens Mega Box Set" is an exhaustive limited-edition collection of the band's demos, rarities, alternative versions and live tracks.

Or, as DiNizio's Web site puts it, "It's an amazing document the chronicles the entire history and career of the Smithereens from 1980 to the present day!"

Hyperbole aside, the Smithereens have been celebrated for their catchy pop songs -- including "Behind the Wall of Sleep," "Time and Time Again," "House We Used to Live In," "Blue Period" and "Too Much Passion" -- and terrific live shows.

Fans will want to check out Pat's website. He's selling two Instant Live Smithereens shows - one recorded in October at Irving Plaza, and then another one from Atlanta, recorded in May of this year.

Sound is a bit sketchy on both (weird, because Instant Live stuff has been good in my experience) - but the Atlanta show has the best sound, and a decent setlist too - very much worth having, and comes packaged in a nice jewelbox, single disc.

Just wanted to ask the local Smitheroids if they'd ever seen Marshall Crenshaw in concert. Really dig his tunes and have for years, and he's coming to the Ram's Head in Annapolis (a frequent venue for the Smithereens) on the 27th and 28th. I'll be out of town on the 28th, but hope to make the earlier show...will I see any of you there?

Just tried to visit the page from the Smithereens link on Pat's webpage, and it came up as a broken link.

The page was the ultimate Smithereens resource...hopefully it is just down temporarily and not permanently!

I don't know if any of you knew, but I found this out from my mom last night.

Apparently, the band will be releasing some sort of anthology box set in October. That's all I really know though.
