Hello, people
Hi friends,
A recent spam posted to the thermalia journal reminded me that this journal was here. So I thought I'd post an update and see if anyone's actually still reading.
Some thermalia adventures of late:
Bees! We've been keeping bees, and now have two hives in our back yard. Alfonsox does the bulk of the outdoor work in his bee suit, and now Bradyou has gotten his own suit and started helping. Hhholiday and Seyewailo and I are the indoor honey processors. It's a sticky business! We've had two small honey harvests this year. Alfonsox has been keeping a bee journal, which you can see here.
Our old pal Crispy from McAllister St. days recently spent a few months camping in our back yard with his little dog, and did a stellar job lovingly caring for the yard while he was here. It was a bit like old times, minus the smoking and complaining about the landlord. Amazingly, he and the dog were never stung by the bees, although they were here for the big swarm (read about it in the bee blog). After the swarm, which we captured and put in a new hive, there were a few incidents of stinging, and for a while the bees seemed to be a bit aggressive when we'd go out back to use the grill or hang the laundry.
Hhholiday and I have been mad picklers, as you probably know from my pickling journal entries and photos. We've slowed down a bit, but there is a batch of sauerkraut on right now. My personal favorite.
Other recent favorite household activities include Glee, dinners and brunches, livingroom conversation about the books we're reading or our latest joys and heartaches, household problem-solving involving some satisfying feats of engineering, meditation (including going on retreats together!), cat worship, baking of cobblers and buckles and crisps (lots of CSA fruit). I've been playing music a bit, mostly banjo, and I'm hoping that Alfonsox, who is taking some voice lessons now, will want to start making some music together soon.
We've recently started hosting "heart circles" (based on the radical faerie kind) for fat queers and allies. After nolose I was wanting a way to have somewhat more intimate, heart-based connections with my fatty queer community. So I thought we'd try having a heart circle and see how it went. We've had two now, and it's been really lovely. Looking forward to more. If you're interested in joining us, let me know.
A typical week at Thermalia includes A going out to dance classes, S training new witches and hanging out with friends (enjoying her somewhat more relaxed work schedule this semester!), H cooking delicious things and lounging with a riveting novel while she wows us with her tie-dye collection, and me plotting and organizing stuff related to the meditation center where I'm on the board. A and S go off to work a few days a week, and I work most days in the office or living room looking out over the town through our lovely windows. S went scuba diving in Hawaii recently, and came back with plenty of stories to tell.
There's a little talk of moving to a house that's more accessible, maybe in a couple years. But things feel pretty happy here today.
Ok, it's a bit like a holiday letter. But if you've made it this far, let me know you're reading.
XO Fattest
