Happy December

So I just thought I'd stop by and tell anyone who may not know that The Holiday House is up and running over on

So I just thought I'd stop by and tell anyone who may not know that The Holiday House is up and running over on <a href-"http://holidayhouse.dreamwidth.org/">Dreamwidth</a>. It moved on over there this year for a couple of reasons. Do stop by if you'd like, and if anyone doesn't have a DW account and would like one, we have several invite codes that you are welcome to so you can join in in the festivities. ^_^

If you'd rather not come over to DW, we do still have holiday house over here, and feel free to initiate your own holiday activities. From DW, the house is currently lit up with candles or all sorts and yummy treats are being baked in the kitchen.

It's a birthday party!

Every day is special here at the Holiday House, but today is extra special because it's somebody's birthday!  Today is a day to celebrate marcicat!

I've made a cake which is magically her favourite flavour, strung up a big birthday banner, and put up lots of balloons.  Come join the fun and help her have a fabulous day!

Day 36

Day 36

A toast to the lovely people of the Holiday House! Cheers!

Everyone who's currently a member should have a key now, whether from last year or from this one: feel free to come by the house and post any time you feel like it! It's a place of community and celebration, and the things we celebrate may be momentous or minute but there will always be someone here to join you in the experience of it :) Thank you for making this such a beautiful time of year!

♥ What gift(s) do you hope to give, to someone in particular or to the world, before this time next year?

Day 35

Day 35

After a lovely sleigh ride and lots of hugs, we're gathering in the kitchen one more time: there's cookies and cocoa and lots of sparkling snowflake decorations to catch the sunlight through the windows. Tomorrow we'll make sure everyone has their key, so they can come back to the Holiday House any time they want to, and we'll talk about gifts we want to give before the season brings us back here again.

For today, though, it's a time to reflect on everything we've received: good company, beautiful days, and maybe a little bit of peace in the sharing of them. Maybe you've received more tangible things that have brightened your life, or less tangible things that are harder to name, much less hold in your hand, but have done the same.

♥ What gift(s) have you received this holiday season that you are already/still enjoying?

Day 34

Day 34

Hooray! Today is perihelion! This is the one day of the year when the earth is closest to the sun, so it seems appropriate to spend it outside at the Holiday House. (Also, we're trying to get in a representative sampling of all activities before daily posts end for the season ::grin::) The penguins are out in force, the horses are having a bit of a trot around the pond, and there are fairy lights up everywhere for anyone who is out after dark!

♥ What is your favorite outdoor activity at the Holiday House?

Day 33

Day 33

marcicat tells me that 2010 will be the year of the tiger! Today seems like a perfect day for cat crafts: make something for your cat, for someone else's cat, or in tribute to cats everywhere! There's fresh catnip in the solarium, and I'm pretty sure we could find some dried stuff somewhere if you want something stronger. There's plenty of fleece and warm fuzzy things to make beds or cat pillows from, and we have lots of yarn that can be crocheted or knotted or just wound into a ball. There's also little bells and crinkly things to make noise, plus sparkly thread and little shiny pom-poms to catch the eye.

Of course there are also pencils and charcoal and paint if you would like to represent a cat, domestic or otherwise, in a two-dimensional medium. Or clay, metals, or pipe cleaners for those who choose a three-dimensional medium! The cats approve! (If you're allergic to cats, the penguins are wandering in to see what we're doing and I know they'd like some love too!)

♥ How do you celebrate the year of the tiger?

Day 32

Day 32

Welcome, 2010! Lots of people make resolutions for a new year, whether they celebrate it now or some other time, and sometimes we find that we promise ourselves the same thing(s) over and over. So what resolutions are you *not* making this year? Resolutions you've made before and kept, so there's no need to be resolved again, or resolutions you've made before and changed your mind about? Maybe they weren't for you after all, or maybe something else came along and proved to be more important in your life. Letting go of the things that don't work or don't matter is as important as catching hold of the things that do!

♥ What are you NOT resolving to do this year?

Day 31

Day 31

Happy New Year! As we thank 2009 and welcome 2010, we have beautiful fireworks, music, and most importantly good company! Are there any other silly/sweet celebratory items you'd like to add? This is the time for crazy glasses, funny hats, glittery noisemakers, confetti, streamers, balloons, and maybe some sparkling cider!

♥ What's your favorite party toy today?

Day 30

Day 30

Hooray for warm fuzzies! ♥

As it is effectively New Year's Eve (or as practice!) it must be time to have some fireworks! These are special silent and half-as-loud fireworks, so if you don't like the sound of normal fireworks you can still watch these without covering your ears! We're having a lovely show with musical accompaniment, with plenty of room for your own designer fireworks at any time!

♥ What kind/color of firework(s) do you design?
