We may or may not be an open community depending on which of the moderators clicked what in the "Manage Community" screen. We strive to offer a level of humor not found in more than 950 or 1000 other LiveJournal communities and, thus, we have an application process.
Membership is OPEN so people can join. HOWEVER, posting is MODERATED. It works like this:
1. Join.
2. Post your application, which should be a list of your top 20 books. 21 books is okay. 19 books is NOT. 100 books will get you SUMMARILY BANNED. We have no sympathy. Go cry in the cold! Your application will go in the queue to be moderated. After a mod approves it, it will then be posted.
Books listed can be novels, novellas, short stories, long short stories, short-short stories, short long stories, or hell, even long stories (wait, those are novels again....never mind). Poetry collections are fine. Epic poems are fine. But try to pick BOOKS, you know? those things that look like flat bricks but come apart on one side.
3. Don't post or comment in the community other than your application before you are accepted. If you do, BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN.
4. Members will comment on your post and vote whether or not you will be ACCEPTED or BANNED!FOR!LIFE! If you have the guts to correct the mod's spelling in the comments to an application, you get an AUTOMATIC BROWNIE POINT. Perhaps a cookie, if you catch us on the right day.
5. We may ban anyone we want, whenever we want, for any reason we want, or for no reason at all. Think of us as being like a really mean employer! If you are teetering on the edge of being accepted, members may ask you for STILL MORE LISTS of books you like, or WHY you like a particular book, or WHY you chose Blood Canticle instead of Interview with a Vampire.
6. NO pandering. NO apologizing. NO dishonesty. NO Comic Sans fonts.
7. Absolutely no creating sockpuppet LJ accounts for offering lists created solely for the purpose of satire. My God, don't you people have hobbies? (Especially satiric lists will get you an extra cookie.)
Members will vote and then the moderators will do something about it if they happen to be awake. We haven't really worked that part out yet.
