My Moonwater trope ;) part 1.
(bonus + Remus and the Slytherin skittles )
A successful Moonwater would be at the expense of James and Sirius’ happiness. That would be the cost of this ship’s love and it would be a thrilling and befitting trope.
Because James and Sirius would deserve that misery.
It would be after the prank, because that is the length it would take for Remus to fully get over Sirius.
Remus, being the kind-hearted loser would forgive Sirius; and James who told him to forgive Sirius.
But— Remus who slowly distanced himself from the Marauders and chose to focus on himself. A Remus who finally realised he had only himself to depend on to make his life better. So he starts investing in himself.
James who ended his relationship with Regulus because Sirius needs him and Lily is accepting him. A Regulus who is once again put last, and not chosen over Sirius.
That Regulus and Remus meet in the library. A slow, decadent, quiet love forming between them. One that held no strings to the marauders because they both wanted to burn that bridge, so they burned it together.
Sirius who was elated that Remus forgave him and naturally expected, once again, to be favoured and wanted. A Sirius who vowed to everyone in their group that he’s going to win Remus back… slowly growing insecure for the first time because Remus is being nice and friendly to him but it’s not the same as before.
Peter realising before anyone else that they’ve lost Remus and quietly telling James, and James being devastated when he realises what that means for Sirius. Sirius still being oblivious until Remus announces he’s with Regulus so he’s going to sit with them at the Slytherin table.
The shock silencing Sirius and James for the whole weekend.
Regulus experiencing every inch of him being loved so ardently and wholly (without being a Black, Sirius or dark labelling him) he switches sides and singlehandley leads a rebellion that over-throws the dark-lord and the Black family, with the skittles (who Remus becomes a priceless member).
Remus who was worried sick about how to convince Regulus to switch sides, overwhelmed to tears when he realised it didn’t take much because their love was enough for Regulus to risk his life and everything in it to be with Remus.
Remus feeling seen and belonged again when skittles tell him they been knew about his furry problem for years even from across the great hall, because they liked him the most from Gryffindors.
And once again shocked still when they all turned into their animagus form as his birthday present.
The skittles also investing into werewolf research and them all being a genius in their own respective, they develop wolfsbane by the final year before the war.
Pandora develops a potion that heals werewolf injuries , which Remus was grateful for.
He told them that he would like to keep the scars he already had but would use the potions for any new ones.
The Gryffindors watching all this unfold and turning to James and Sirius sat crouched over beside them—who looked grey and barely able lift their heads up nowadays.

headcanon that james is very unsubtle with his crush on regulus but sirius’ mind doesn’t even stray that far. he chalks james’ insane behavior up to james being in love with remus because why else would james not tell who his crush is to sirius? so sirius sits him down and he’s like “look, i get it, but i started dating him first so you have to back off” and james stares at him for two hours

James: Rethinking it, i'll gladly accept the offer too, if i haven't decided that my crush on you it's purely platonic, also not to Sirius to kill me, but you're quite dreamy moony.

We all agree that Sirius and Remus listen to muggle music, but I also have this headcanon that the only muggle music that James likes is queen.
And when Sirius gets out of Azkaban and finds out that Freddie Mercury died, the only thing he can think is that he is glad that James is not there to suffer it.
