I love how One Piece Live Action takes these ridiculous designs and then makes them live in the world. Like everyone has blue and green hair in ridiculous styles but then it looks all salt-blasted and frazzled. Their clothes are in bright cartoon colors but they're dirty and sweaty and torn. The buildings have these elaborate whimsical flourishes but they're scuffed and worn and the paint is peeling in the sun.
the thing about the one piece adaptation is that it doesn’t take itself seriously in the sense of trying to make things more realistic or grounded or grimdark but it DOES take itself seriously in the sense of everyone putting their whole pussy into treating cwazy hair stupid weapon silly name world as the reality the characters are in and one that has real emotional stakes and it kind of rules
I do think that kids media should have big words in it. I unironically learned a lot of vocabulary from looking up words I heard while watching Phineas and Ferb when I was growing up.
Tim Hortons is doing a Harry Potter collab and like. Whatever. I quit going there years ago because the food and drinks are bad. But it's annoying me off how people keeping boiling down folks boycotting Tim's to "People are mad about things JRK said on Twitter" and "People are mad because they don't like Harry Potter". I heard the former stated as the reason on the radio the other day. Jesus Christ, no. People are mad because any money JKR gets from this promotion will be funneled straight into lobbying against transgender rights and access to healthcare in the UK. Very tangible real world harm. It isn't about the ideological purity of the stupid wizard donuts.
The older i get, the more i realize that someone making time for you is one of the clearest signs they care. Everyone is busy. Everyone has responsibilities and their own battles to fight. So when someone consistently chooses to spend their time with you, checks on you, and makes space for you in their life, it means something. time is one thing we can never get back, and people don't give it away lightly.
The opposite of “the elephant in the room” is “the centipede in the room”: something that’s not actually an issue but everyone is freaking out about
