CASSANDRA (ode to my namesake)
These visions beckon me
their dictation crisp and clear
Eloquent are their callings
upon my favored ear
Eloquent is that sound
that no other seems to hear
And up their fervent calling
shall I ignore what I must bear
when the purpose of my own knowing
can only mean that I must share
and by relaying such prophecies
I am cast out beyond compare
A gift so great a burden
disheartened am I that it is mine
For their disbelief masks the warnings
no matter how obvious the sign
their disbelief shall be there undoing
tragic that they shall only see in time.
So ... does this community yet breathe? Are we dead? What is the situation here?
