Once upon a time there was a high school student who needed to write a story using archetypes for an English assignment *AHEM* CORDERO. Having started this project the night before it was due, she decided to have an elk in the story instead of a horse because, you know, horses don't go well with forest stories. So there was an elk. And it was a good, obedient sidekick and nothing more. The student's English buddy, for some strange, undisclosed reason, adored the elk. And from then on, the English buddy referred to the student as "The Great Elk."
And proceeded to spawn the cult known as The Animal Family, which now includes: The Great Elk, the Loco Lizard, the velociraptor, the mongoose, the tree, the penguin, the walrus, the buzzard (who was offered an upgrade to the eagle and turned it down), the toucan, the hyena, the bear, the flamingo, the packrat, the Grassy, the chipmunk, the squirrel, the weasel, the sifaka, the catbird, the giant firefly, and the clownfish.
