Not that it really matters, as the two members of the band live a minimum of 3 hours away from each other on opposite sides of a mountain range. Also, participation in this band carries the curse of death to those near us. But I guess it's important just to keep up appearances.
well....the ritual coin toss was completed. Nuin used a dime. it came up tails...meaning pro tools. Huzzah! industry standard...
and now I have to get DVDrom. and another, external, hard drive..once we start getting a few things going anyway.
sigh.
checked out condenser mics...and mic preamps...the one that "warms up" the digitally recorded effects that sometimes sound flat (as in lifeless, not below pitch)...though I'm not sure how it would be used. I have noticed that digital can sound tinny...so that caught my eye...but I think it's something for later...also want to check out other places and compare prices...
I still want the V-amps vs really good plugins...because they can be used as effects boxes live (they even come with nifty fool (a-hahahahaha...that was supposed to be "foot"...but in my case, it still works!)pedels)...I'm wondering how much we'll have to fiddle with the sound if it is recorded the way we want it (with the effect), rather than using a plugin to create the sound. would this eliminate extra plugins used on tracks...thus not bogging down my processor? or would I/we have to use different plugins to modify it?
I guess we'll find out.
huzzah! choices have been made...and now we can start collecting all these neat toys! and now... sleep (~_~)
because I'm stressed and can't sleep....I've been looking over the digidesign magazine...it lists the computer systems (processer, RAM and such) I have as the basics for their software...it wont be fast...but it will work. recordingstudio guy says plug ins will bog it down...
plug ins are things like drum effect software, loop libraries etc...
considering what we do...most of the effects being from the amps rather than mixed in....and the only plug in we'll likely use until we get the hang of this stuff is the drums...
and a recap of what we accomplished this last moday...
two new songbits bass and guitar...roughshod yet, but awesome none the less...a bass line for a semi-new one, remembered another bass line for an old one...and work/fun with some old stuff.
do we want software we can learn now...and know what we're doing should we get to a studio...and have a really good grasp on the ins and outs of it because there is a huge amount of user support/ tutorials...magazine w/help and all that...but suffer setbacks (perhaps not as good a quality sound) now because the software isn't designed for a PC
----OR----
go with something of the same idea that works well on a PC, is upgradeable in little increments (rather than large leaps of cost and equipment...though after a time would add up to the same amount as the large leap with the other software) but not an industry standard, thus perhaps making it a little difficult should we get to a studio...
do we plan only for what works best for us now and get the non-industry standard that might set us back later...or start planning a little bit into the future we want and buy what the big guns use?
ack. hand me a damn quarter this coming monday....we'll find out!
yo! smallbearcub ....remember how we were talking about activebass.com...and mentioned it'd be neat if there was one for guitars too. we're dumbasses...because there is..activeguitar.com...who'd a thunk it?
anyway, same deal...you can look up chords, scales etc. then play them to practice (through another site they have a link to) I've added them along with activebass to my favorites (as in the sites on my favorites list that actually are my favorites) so, now I'm practicing guitar again...woot. yeah.
