Description:
a crime drama fandom RPG

The 305 is a CSI: Miami-centric roleplay community, though characters from (practically) any other fandom are welcome.

Canon Characters: All canon characters, regardless of fandom, are to begin play with the history provided up until and including the finale for the show’s 2007/08 season (or whenever the particular show concluded its season for the year). Characters that were at one point on a given show and were killed off/moved/transferred/etc. will be canon up until their last episode—with the exception of dead characters—and any missing information will be filled in by you, the player, but must be made to fit with what is canon for the RP.

Original Characters: Original characters that bear any influence on someone else’s character (ie someone deciding to create Ryan’s old flame or Calleigh’s mother) must have that player’s approval before the character can be accepted. Unless of course it’s the player who is creating the original character (i.e. Tripp's player creating Tripp's ex-wife).

Each player has complete character control with the exception of killing them off. Ending a character’s run in the roleplay must be approved by admin. Every opportunity should be afforded for another person to play rather than ending a character’s existence. Playing a character as close to the personality we’ve seen on the show is preferred, but again, each player has creative control within reason. It is possible for a character to be bisexual or homosexual behind closed doors that we aren't privy to on the show. But Rick Stetler suddenly becoming a pimp and Calleigh his ho is not a reasonable change. So let’s keep things reasonable please. If in doubt, ask in the out-of-character community Off Duty.

Off Duty: This is the place where we get together to talk. We can talk about cases and/or storylines we’d like to do in the roleplay, as well as our personal lives. This is definitely the place we let everyone know we’ll be missing as well as let everyone know of our return (if it wasn’t established in the initial ‘will be gone’ post). All new players should make this their first post, introducing themselves.

As for posting in the roleplay community, we are all well aware that real life takes precedence, which means there will be times when a player may fall behind in tags. However, when possible try and update at least a few times a week. For this community there is a 2 tags per week minimum, extenuating circumstances notwithstanding. As stated previously, if you're leaving for any extended period of time make it known in Off Duty. Any absence longer than two weeks should be discussed for a temporary replacement unless approved by all other players.

To join: E-mail the.305.admin@gmail.com the application below with the character you wish to play plus a mandatory sample of your writing as that character. Bios would be nice but are not required for approval unless applying for an original character. Once approved, you will need to create the character’s journal for playing if you don’t already have one. All cases/storylines are to be posted in The 305 and any character reflection or threads not relevant to others in the game should go in the character journal.

A few words about the writing sample: It seems like some people aren’t really getting the idea behind the sample. Think of it like an interview. If you’re going in for a job and you really want it, you are not going to give the employer a few lines written on college-ruled loose-leaf, you’re going to hand in a well organized, fleshed out resume. The same thing applies here. No, we don’t need a full dossier of the canon or original character you’re applying for but we do need more than a few lines to go by. Though not impossible, it is rare that one can capture a character's voice in three sentences. So while there is no limit on the amount you can and cannot write, please just keep in mind that the sample often is the deciding factor on whether or not you’re accepted to play.

Select and copy (right click the box, select all and copy) the text from the box to save the form that you need to fill in. All instructions are inside:

Once you have joined The 305 RP and Off Duty with your character journal, please make sure that if you use this journal for other role-plays all your entries for this community are exclusive to The 305/Off Duty (filter your entries). It will prevent any confusion when someone checks their friend page or the community’s friend page. Any long entries should go behind a lj-cut (ask in Off Duty or check LJ help for assistance if you are unfamiliar with how to do one).

Age: 18+ only. Many adult themes dictate the age requirement. Maybe the show is okay for minors but we’re going above and beyond what the show gives us or what would be the point really? An age statement must be emailed with all applications –There will be no exceptions.
