After being magically transported to Earth, Spike took up residence in the crashed Ark and struck up a friendship with Grimlock. Spike soon came to idolized the enormous Dinobot leader, declaring him "so cool" and admitting that he felt inferior in comparison. When the Constructicons attacked, however, Grimlock found himself outmatched by Devastator's brute strength. Thinking quickly, Spike consulted Teletraan I's instruction manuals and taught himself how to activate the ship's engines, blasting Devastator into his components and rescuing Grimlock. As the Constructicons retreated, Grimlock told Spike that the little dragon was a brave warrior in his own right, with the potential to become even stronger . Inspiring Spike was so impressed by his encounter with Grimlock that he researched everything there was to know about the other Dinobots; in time, he became an expert on the various Autobots and their personality quirks. The Mightiest Dinobot Eventually, Spike and Grimlock were able to get the magically-charged spacebridge to Equestria working again just in time to join the final conflict against the Decepticons, which saw Spike pilot an exosuit into battle against Megatron. Some time later, Spike and his friends were enjoying a concert in Las Pegasus when the Decepticons invaded with the intent of seizing as many magical artifacts as possible. The Magic of Cybertron Spike and his friend Smolder reunited with Grimlock, who introduced him to the other Dinobots. Despite Grimlock's efforts to hype him up, Spike didn't impress them; when a mind-controlled Superion attacked, however, the little dragon was able to break Sombra's spell by appealing to each of the Aerialbots and their individual personalities, causing Superion to collapse under the strain of keeping his components together. With the day saved, Grimlock announced that Spike was now an honorary Dinobot. The Mightiest Dinobot
