This is Keith's inbox. If you're leaving a voice message, the greeting is the standard one. Good luck getting a callback. He's kind of lazy about that as he tends to get distracted by other real-time in-his-face things. Sorry.
[It was time to make an incredibly important decision. Possibly one of the most important decisions he'd have to make all year so far. One that could make or break the day he's been looking forward to for a long time. The smallest of mistakes could send all of it crashing to the ground, a flaming unsalvagable wreck, destroyer of all that was good about friendship and family.
Lance stands in front of the conspiracy board in Keith's room about the Huntress, marker in hand, staring at the circle he's drawn. There are seven lines protruding from it, but that's all so far.]
This is serious, Pidge. We can't just like, pull names out of a hat. This has to be done right. Trust me, I've been to enough badly planned family dinners to know that one mistake can cause it to all go kaboom.
[Pidge is standing there next to him, a marker in one hand and a list of names in the other (just to make sure they don't forget anyone, really). Her eyes are locked to the circle as she frowns at it, tapping the marker thoughtfully to her chin.]
Dude, I've watched my mom plan out family reunions and formal Garrison dinners. I know what's at stake.
But I think first step is finding your seat. Then we've got something to work from.
[Attached to the message comes a bunch of pictures! There are tons of group shots, of course, and Shiro's selfies with Keith. Keith wallflowering against different surfaces, he slowly losing clothes as the evening progresses and, at the end, like the cherry on top, comes Keith and Lance dancing on the balcony.
[Keith looked through the images with amusement at first. He wasn't surprised Shiro had taken a bunch of photos like that. It was kind of sweet, really-
Happy birthday, Keith. Sorry this is the situation your day has to go through. We'll do something after we rescue everyone and we're out here - because we will. Alright? -Shiro
Hey... Keith? So this totally isn't at all like I was trying to get today to go, and there's a lot of bad stuff going on and I don't even know if this message is going to get through, but...
[He chews on his bottom lip a little before shaking his head and putting on as bright a smile as he can muster.]
[The nightmare of last month had finally all but come to an end. Everyone was safe, the enemies were defeated, and Lance certainly was not thinking about how many people he had to kill up close. Not at all. Besides, there were more important things to him on his mind, like finally getting to give Keith his birthday present and properly celebrate.
(Priorities.)
Lance stands outside of Keith's room aboard the Huntress, giving it a few knocks, his other hand holding a box.]
[Keith was a little surprised by someone knocking on his door. He went to open it, even more surprised by who it was.]
Lance?
[He couldn't help that his eyes automatically drifted down to Lance's neck to see if there was any residual bruising left over from their fight with the Vieziri. It had been the most visible of their combined injuries, after all. And he was concerned... for his teammate... yeah.]
[Lance is on his feet before he can even fully put two thoughts together. There's a cold shiver running through him, and though he's all too aware of why that could be, there's something else to it. Something he can't identify, but that doesn't matter right now. The only thing that does isn't on the same ship as him.
But he'd better be on the same fleet.
He doesn't know how he makes it to the Huntress with his hands shaking on the flight controls so much, but he does, and he's soon hitting his fist against one of the dormitory's doors.]
When he'd woken up back here on the Huntress, he wasn't sure what to think. They had to find out if Lotor was trustworthy about this. They had to continue the resistance movement. They had regroup after that battle. They had things to do!
But, after a few minutes, other things began to sink in... like what he'd almost done... what he'd almost sacrificed... and why he'd almost sacrificed it... and he found he was glued to his bed, unable to actually move. He stared at the ceiling in something of a dull haze, trying to process it all, and the added stress of coming back to this place... back here... wasn't helping him deal with what he had just been through.
At least, he thought he'd been through something. He wasn't so sure. There was this strange chill of dread flowing through him, and he didn't know what it meant, but he knew it was related to the Fleet.
Lance banging on his door startled him out of his thoughts, and he gasped, blinking a few times to clear his vision from the blurred and unfocused staring he'd been doing. His tone was hesitant and a little rough as he responded.]
[Keith knew that not everyone was in the know about what had happened while they'd been gone, so he appreciated the sentiment behind the lion... even if it wasn't really a thing for him anymore. Way to hit him in the feels, Kaname!]
[Most of the proper gift giving is going to be done at the dinner later that day that they're getting ready for, but Lance thinks it best that he give Keith his present early. He wants to be able to see Keith's reaction without the other boy trying to hide it because they're in a crowded room. And, honestly, he's terribly impatient and wants to see his reaction period.
With a wrapped package in one arm, Lance knocks on Keith's door aboard the Huntress to announce his arrival, giving his fellow paladin a smile.]
[There's something different about your jacket today, Keith.
Tucked in one of its pockets is a folded red piece of paper. Several folded red pieces of paper, actually. If unfolded, Keith will discover that it's a bunch of paper hearts stapled in a small stack. It's less of a Valentine and more of a love letter in its length.]
Your lion is red My lion is blue This poem would have worked perfectly before and I'm super miffed I didn't actually get to use it
Happy Valentine's Day, Keith. It's our first one together and I definitely hope we're gonna have a zillion more. You've been a really important factor in my life for a really long time, and being able to wake up to your beautiful face is more than I thought I could ever ask for. Thanks for letting a guy like me into your life.
[As Keith looked through the little packet of papers, it slowly dawned on him what was going on.
QUIZNAK. He'd forgotten Valentine's Day!
He gasped suddenly and dashed out the door of his cabin, knowing the way Lance was about this kind of romantic stuff, and raced through the ship, kind of hoping they didn't run into each other...
[This isn't the first time Lance has transferred ships.
This also isn't the first time Lance has transferred ships without notifying Keith. This time, though, it's supposed to be a good surprise. Not an "oh shit did my teammate's ship just get eaten by another ship" surprise. Lance doesn't even waste his time settling into his new room, because he doubts he's going to be in there much to begin with. Instead, the first order of business is to burst into Keith's bedroom completely unprompted with a dramatic wave of his arms and a booming, cheesy voice.]
[With Lance spending as much time as he did on the Huntress anyway, Keith honestly didn't think it meant more than a normal night. He hadn't seen the new manifest, yet. So, after the initial startling moment of someone bursting into his room, Keith just gave Lance a small smile.]
[This has been playing on Sokka's mind since the last system- after seeing Ulaz's blade. He realises he's probably going to overstep, hell, Keith might tell him where to go and not answer anything. Still, can't hurt to try, right? ]
Heeeeeeeeeeeeey Keith, it's Sokka. You got a minute? I've got some questions.
Hey Keith, jsyk (that means 'just so you know'! neato right) I sent a newbie your way for information. I thought since you and umm, Shiro, I think? Since you guys tend to follow things more closely you might be able to help him better. His name's Ben, and he's our new security personnel.
I wanted to make you aware that I have seen Zarkon's witch as a member of the fleet. Please don't try to engage her. Observation is best at the moment both to determine what she might do and so we don't come out being aggressors.
Lance was out, so Keith was on his own at the moment, poking around at some of the stuff he had on his own personal board in his bunk. It was, for the moment, free of any weird comments and drawings from the others.]
Hey... what's up?
[He stepped back after opening the door so she could come in. For the most part, the room was fairly neat. Keith liked neat, Lance like sentimental clutter. The room was a strange balance of the two at the moment.]
[Why was it that stuff always had to mess up his plans for his favorite holidays? Especially this one? He'd wanted to shower Keith with flowers and candy and kisses, give him a super meaningful gift, take him out on a super romantic date... But no. Instead, they're stuck on a bland and clinical spaceship facing some of their most traumatic memories. And Shiro's gone MIA on top of that.
Great atmosphere for Valentine's Day.
Lance doesn't want to give up, though. As soon as he wakes up in the morning, he goes to grab a knife from the kitchen area, along with random bits he scavenges around that he'd tracked down in earlier days. He spends a good few hours in his room, working to put together something he'd been practicing. Though he's not really satisfied with the appearance, he wraps it up in a little satchel of ripped off cloth.
This is going to be the universe's shittiest Valentine's Day gift, but it's better than nothing.
He heads to his boyfriend's room (hating that they have separate rooms here), knocking on the door.]
[ Hello, Keith! Next time you're in the cargo bay of your ship, there is a package waiting for you. The package itself is nothing fancy, just a plastic container with a blue lid, about as big around as a dinner plate and a couple of inches high. But it's filled with cookies!! Looks like one half of the container has chocolate chip cookies, and the other half cinnamon-sugar snaps in the shape of apples.
There's a note attached, red ink on white paper in curly lettering: "Thanks for keeping me company in that dream! Sorry about the dragon... I wasn't expecting that! I hope these will make up for it! ♥ - Escha" ]

Valentine's day!
This is going to be the universe's shittiest Valentine's Day gift, but it's better than nothing.
