also. have not read the books and am not going to which is why maybe some things about all of this felt arbitrary in ways they woulnd't for their target audience. But "no editors next book, I promise" haha yeah I got THAT joke and it was funny. get her ass

I have really enjoyed S2 of IWTV so far... (well, the first two episodes)... I feel like maybe the fact that I have no connection to this property and have no idea what's going to happen or opinions on, you know ~relationship endgame~ is better, or at least more fun and less stressful. I don't care what happens I just want them all to suffer!

Have caught up with IWTV except for yesterday's episode! This thing is truly hitting every single fanfiction trope that exists, which usually makes for terrible TV, but somehow it is GREAT. The entire "Louis and Lestat's Very Different Sex Talk Parenting Styles" sequence? Hilarious.

ALSO HILARIOUS: Daniel Molloy, I love him, something about Eric Bogosian is just the most Done (he had a weirdly similar role in Succession, i.e. being the person being like "I have had it with all these irritating wankers ") and he's the perfect foil to how over-the top the recalled narrative is.

I am very curious how people who are book fans feel about it! I haven't read the books, though I think I meant to at some point, though I probably won't both because I am not Serious Enough about it and because... tbh, now that I've seen the show, I don't want to go to the version where Louis is a plantation owner and Lestat eats slaves. But I am really interested in how— it's not necessarily a rewrite, it acknowledges events as described in the book, and this is a re-do for the characters in many ways, with the entire thing both lampshaded and hand-waved away, "allow me my odyssey of recollection!" So I can certainly see how if you weren't all that impressed with the show compared to the books, i.e. Louis setting the old tapes in fire in the trash can would seem... almost insulting. And yet from my extremely limited vantage point, it doesn't seem like antipathy towards the source material so much as just an acknowledgement of independence? IDK! Any book fans here?
