20 Recs from August & September
Sep. 30th, 2025 09:20 pmOnce again missed a month in my self-imposed rec series (the end of August is the busiest time of year for me 😓) so we're going with a double batch of recs from the last two months.
🦾 Murderbot
❖ Closed Loop System by One_of_Them (gen, 1k): EXTREMELY cool story, where you unlock the narrative by playing Minesweeper.
❖ The Wavelength Gently Grows by Aylwyyn228 (Gurathin-centric, Gurathin & Murderbot gen, 39k): "The events of the survey put Gurathin back on the Company's radar, he has a Not Good Time." Great H/C, heavy on the H.
❖ Another Time, Another Memory by parthagenon (Gurathin-centric, 13k): When Gurathin's implants start to fail, he loses his memories of PresAux and earlier versions of himself try to make sense of his new life. This type of amnesia fic is catnip to me.
❖ Distress Call by e_va (Murderbot-centric, Gurathin & Murderbot gen, 9k): This time it's Murderbot's turn to suffer! He gets put in a box and it's bad. Excellent H/C.

All of the following recs can be summed up as "vaguely post-S8, Eddie figures his shit out."
❖ turn around, i do this on repeat by coldbam (Buck/Eddie, 13k): A time-loop fic wherein Eddie has to figure some things out about himself.
❖ The Rose Garden at the End of the World by glorious_spoon (Buck/Eddie, 37k): This time Eddie needs a near-death experience, advice from his Abuelo, and glimpses of alternate lives to figure his shit out.
❖ So get off the fence, you're creasing your butt by Lamardeuse (Buck/Eddie, 8k): Captain Chim asks Eddie about paperwork he found in Bobby's desk and prompts Eddie into a whole reevaluation of his relationship with Buck. Always love a Lamardeuse fic!
❖ the most remarkable thing about coming home to you (is the feeling of being in motion again) by mentholpainting (Buck/Eddie, 23k): Interesting take on Buck and Eddie's dynamic. Canon divergent post-8x13.
❖ when i think about you by coldbam (Buck/Eddie, 10k): "Buck’s pent up. Eddie offers him a solution. It unravels from there." They're both going off the rails here.

❖ buy back the secrets by sundiscus (DCU, Tim/Kon, 113k): "5 times Superboy saves Tim Drake, and one time Tim Drake saves Superboy." Amazing, epic identity porn.
❖ 🎥 Murder City by rhoboat (Last of Us, Joel & Ellie, fanvid): Very effective s1 vid about Joel and Ellie's relationship that makes excellent use of intercutting.
❖ simple machines [series] by vexedquestion (Leverage, Eliot-centric, Eliot/Hardison/Parker, 60k): Thoughtful developing relationship fic where Eliot has to reexamine some assumptions about his identity in light of his changing love life.
❖ 🎥 Vertigo by maleann (MASH, BJ-centric, fanvid): Love that this vidder is out here making so many great MASH vids in 2025. Wouldn't have thought of this song for BJ, but it works well and the vid really captures just how angry he gets the longer he stays in Korea.
❖ Ways to Leave Your Lover by ForgetMeNotForest (MASH, BJ/Peg/Hawkeye, 10k): "Hawkeye intends to strike the Hunnicutts from his life before it's too late. Fortunately, he isn't much good at taking orders - even his own." Navigating the complexities of a threeway relationship post-series.
❖ Skillsets by avocadomoon (Mission: Impossible, Benji/Ethan, 8k): Crucially, avocadomoon writes Ethan as the weirdo he is.
❖ Further Adventures in Mumbai [series] by MerricatB (Sense8, Wolfgang/Kala/Rajan, 38k but ongoing): I'm finishing a rewatch of Sense8 that left me eager for some Wolfgang/Kala/Rajan (who have the most open-ended/intriguing relationship to develop at the end of the show, IMO). I've enjoyed all of MerricatB's work in the fandom, but this ongoing series of post-finale vignettes about the trio's developing relationship is great. And it doesn't skimp on Felix!
❖ A Helping Hand by theapplepielifestyle (Stranger Things, Steve/Eddie, 14k): "Thanks to Vecna-related injuries, Eddie hasn’t jerked off for months. Steve graciously lends a helping hand. Feelings happen." What it says on the tin! Hot and fun and well-written, like all of this author's work.
❖ and by morning [series] by Chrome (Yuri on Ice, Yurio POV, Victor/Yuuri, 18k): Sensitively written series where Yurio learns something upsetting about Victor's past. I went on a big YOI reading kick last month and these stories were some of my favorite new-to-me ones.
❖ Nights So Slow by jibrailis (Yuri on Ice, Victor/Yuuri, 3k): I love when they just don't communicate (lucky me, since that is most of the show).
❖ prismatic by seventhswan (Yuri on Ice, Victor/Yuuri, 2k): "Victor courts Yuri."
