I read a bit of the late President Kennedy's speeches and have read many from Wilson back to Lincoln and have found such profound messages in their words...maybe I do dream much maybe I do want things we will never achieve but is it not better to dream of better things than to live without those dreams?

deciding which one of Kennedy to share...He is a man that will always interest me along with Lincoln...men of substance, men of wisdom. men with visions of the future, men who dared to evoke change...Kennedy and Lincoln's stories both ended tragically..both murdered..how quickly we are bereft of those that could lead the way for the blind...

Researching the Earth's magnetic fields tonight..think since global warming that creatures such as birds, fish, whales and butterflies are off course....anyway...off to work.. :)

Climate changes of greenhouse effects also effect humans as well as all life forms...The trees, flowers are blooming earlier, animals breeding earlier which causes decline in their babies survival during months that revert back and forth...Japan sets standard for temperature to 82 on all thermostats..wondered how they have not progressed in solar..seems as if they are usually ahead of the times...

but now back to migration..
Birds according to some scientist see the earth's magnetic field.

I have been studying this for some time now in another fan fiction story I am writing on birds.


Scientists are digging deeper into cellular navigation tools that guide birds in their patterns of migrations.


I read about superoxide, an oxygen molecule that the think combines with light-sensitive proteins to form an 'in-eye compass" so the theory is that the birds actually are able to see either colored light, shades of gray and white or perhaps dots on the horizon that they use to guide themselve.

“It connects from the subatomic world to a whole bird flying,” said Michael Edidin, an editor of Biphysical Journal.

The superoxide theory was invented by Biophysicist Klaus Schulten of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the lead author of the study and a pioneer in avian magnetoreception. Schulten first hypothesized in 1978 that some sort of biochemical reaction took place in birds’ eyes, most likely producing electrons whose spin was affected by subtle magnetic gradients.

By 2000 Schulten suggested that a photoreceptor protein called cryptochrome is the compass. He said it reacts with a certain unknown molecule" to produce pairs of electrons that exist in a state of quantum entanglement — spatially separated, but each still able to affect the other."



Their theory : "According to this model, when a photon hits the compass, entangled electrons are scattered to different parts of the molecule. Variations in Earth’s magnetic field cause them to spin in different ways, each of which leaves the compass in a slightly different chemical state. The state alters the flow of cellular signals through a bird’s visual pathways, ultimately resulting in a perception of magnetism."

This had spurned technology to implement entangled electrons to store information in quantum computers.

The other key element is unknown. Some think that oxygen could interact with cryptochrome to produce the strange electron entanglements/

All of this is still being researched but is very interesting to me.
So imagine now the birds cannot see the colors, or the shades or the dots. They go off course, they do not migrate in the warm targeted area.

This is the critical piece of migration. When we added all the pieces up, without the wind our calculations indicate that the birds would run out of fuel. The wind gives them that little assistance and pushes them along and gets them to the next stopover site. What we think they're actually doing is using the wind as the... just like a surfer would use it.

What our wind data indicates is two things. It gives us an idea, a measurement of the speed and the direction of the wind. And depending on weather conditions, the wind typically is either out of the south or southwest or it's out of the northwest. Those are the two fairly common regimes that we see in the Gulf. So when we look at these, do an analysis of these winds, there are areas that are going to be, that will be more favourable to bird migration...

The blue areas represent regions where wind direction could help push the birds along quickly, adding an extra one or two metres per second to their flying speed. The smaller orange area represents a headwind, which could slow them down.

As the winds shift, you know, it will affect the birds as well in how successful they are at migrating. The really interesting question will be whether the species can come through and survive this.

So long distance birds would be effected the most. They rely on the navigational tools to take them to warmer areas to live and breed. If off course they would land on areas that could be barren with little food source, areas with predators, or areas with severe weather they may not be able to withstand...

If one dies it is really many..for that one bird never made it to its nesting ground to mate and to raise its young...after a few years this could impact one bird population into extinction.

The robins ate an entire Holly tree in seconds..so hungry..I wondered where they were all heading to...They are in the picture I posted on one of my trees in the backyard...ever see birds on their journey in the sky? A v pattern of geese perhaps? They are so brave...anyway...
Heading out to enjoy the day and admire them and help them in some small way..if only a bit of food and water and a bit of shelter and a bit of a lawn and flowers...it is all I know now to do... :)

Infinite Mysteries

Have you ever stopped to wonder how a bumble bee can fly? Scientists have debated it for centuries. They say that its body weight, shape and wings should render the creature flightless and yet it manages always to take flight. Some say it is all in the "thrust" as it takes off. I say it is its sheer will that allows it to fly.

Orville and Wilbur Wright accomplished as humans the same feat on the dunes of Kitty Hawk. It took them three years but by 1903 they actually flew! It is raw determination that makes the impossible possible.

Have you ever heard a giraffe? Not its footsteps or the sound of it eating but its actually voice?

We cannot hear it as it is humans. It is ultrasonic. They communicate along with elephants, whales and dolphins to pitches that we cannot hear. Dogs also can pick up ultrasonic and bats use echo location to find their way. Yet another mystery of the world.

The life of a butterfly is yet another infinite mystery. They go through four stages in their life of egg, larva, pupa and adult. Some only live days while others years. One that I found lives the shortest is the Ulysses and Luna moth and longest Monarch males. Some migrate to warmer regions as they are cold blooded and seek the warmth of better climate. The Monarch is said to be able to fly at a rate of 20 miles per hour. The longest distance is said to be the Painted Lady who lives for one month. The swallowtail dies right after it lays its eggs.

Some butterflies have transformed their coloring to promote their survival. Birds usually become sick and vomit after eating certain colored butterflies. The new colors similar to the ones that they avoid is called Batesian mimicry.

Read today if you can about Koko the gorilla and how she can communcate by sign language. Most primates communicate vocally and non-vocally with grunts, screams and gestures. These primates are highly intelligent and all primates have the ability to communicate to the other. They also use tools for food as well as in groups build a tight structure of family bonds, rules and regulations. I also hope you will watch them with their babies. There was an amazing footage of a boy who fell into a gorilla pen in a zoo and the primate actually protected him. Since my page was pretty much started out as swan related I think it only befitting that I write a bit more of a swan....

Picture in your head a swan...what do you see? what images float in your head?
Here is what I picture...

First I imagine the white mute swan...but I love them all...but the white stands out so much in its surroundings and white is a symbol of purity.
Picture in your head their graceful fluid movement across the water and delicate long necks and how when the snuggle it often forms a heart shape making them even more symbolic to love and one in which they do feel..yes these wondrous birds are very lving to their mate and cygnet young ones. They all take a role in the raising of their young and even the babies remain close and travel on the water via their parents feathered backs.

According to http://www.theswansanctuary.org.uk the cygnet babies will stay with their parents until they are around 4 months old then join a flock. It is said that by the age of 3 to 4 years(males) earlier at 2 for (females) they will seek out a mate. I think their behavior of remaining in a flock as opposed to birds that are solo gives them even stronger bonds to their kind. The mute swan does not make any vocal noises in flight so that may be part of why it got its name or that it is white (a mute color) It is said that they are very vocal on land..see http://www.damisela.com/zoo/ave/ot…

I have read about swans all the way back to heiroglyphics..how old they are estimated to be I have not found out just yet but find them happily in so much legend and lore... From Egytptian, to Celtic, to Mythos to art forms considered sacred if not magical charms that bear the swan.. Today I read of them at :) Stratford on Avon...I also want to see about Swan's and their protection long ago..I assume in many cultures it would be considered a bad omen to ever kill a swan....

Will read up on these tomorrow..Grimms Fairy Tales the six swans, The tales of Siddhi-Kur, Urvaci and Puravaras, Cycnus son of Poseidon..hmmm sons of Ares, Hyrne..okay that's enough!!

I just read that in the UK it is considered treason to kill a swan..and that the Queen's swan's in particular are carefully watched.

..found some old art pieces with swan..On display at the Getty Villa of a vase with Leda and the Swan dating 330 B.C. and a amazing statue of Leda and the Swan dating 1st Century A.D. I cannot show you the pictures as the copyrights are owned by a photogrpher McMorrow but they may be visible on another Getty site. Found another at the Louvre. It is a Lucanian red-figured nestoris painted by Cheophoroi dating 360-35 b.c.


I also want to add for my notes the swan and it's wings....do they not remind you of all the depictions we have of angels wings?

Once upon a time, a certain King was hunting in a great forest, and he chased a wild beast so eagerly that none of his attendants could follow him. "I have a daughter," said the old woman, "who is as beautiful as any one in the world, and well deserves to be your consort, and if you will make her your Queen, I will show you the way out of the forest." In the anguish of his heart the King consented, and the old woman led him to her little hut, where her daughter was sitting by the fire. She received the King as if she had been expecting him, and he saw that she was very beautiful, but still she did not please him, and he could not look at her without secret horror. She gave a great deal of money to his servants, and they betrayed the secret to her, and told her likewise of the ball which alone could point out the way. And now she knew no rest until she had learnt where the King kept the ball of yarn, and then she made little shirts of white silk, and as she had learnt the art of witchcraft from her mother, she sewed a charm inside them. And once when the King had ridden forth to hunt, she took the little shirts and went into the forest, and the ball showed her the way. The children, who saw from a distance that some one was approaching, thought that their dear father was coming to them, and full of joy, ran to meet him. Then she threw one of the little shirts over each of them, and no sooner had the shirts touched their bodies than they were changed into swans, and flew away over the forest. The Queen went home quite delighted, and thought she had got rid of her step-children, but the girl had not run out with her brothers, and the Queen knew nothing about her. Next day the King went to visit his children, but he found no one but the little girl. "Where are thy brothers?' asked the King. "Alas, dear father," she answered, "they have gone away and left me alone!" and she told him that she had seen from her little window how her brothers had flown away over the forest in the shape of swans, and she showed him the feathers, which they had let fall in the courtyard, and which she had picked up. The King mourned, but he did not think that the Queen had done this wicked deed, and as he feared that the girl would also be stolen away from him, he wanted to take her away with him. But she was afraid of her step-mother, and entreated the King to let her stay just this one night more in the forest castle.

The poor girl thought, "I can no longer stay here. I will go and seek my brothers." And when night came, she ran away, and went straight into the forest. She walked the whole night long, and next day also without stopping, until she could go no farther for weariness. Then she saw a forest-hut, and went into it, and found a room with six little beds, but she did not venture to get into one of them, but crept under one, and lay down on the hard ground, intending to pass the night there. Just before sunset, however, she heard a rustling, and saw six swans come flying in at the window. They alighted on the ground and blew at each other, and blew all the feathers off, and their swan's skins stripped off like a shirt. Then the maiden looked at them and recognized her brothers, was glad and crept forth from beneath the bed. The brothers were not less delighted to see their little sister, but their joy was of short duration. "Here canst thou not abide," they said to her. "This is a shelter for robbers, if they come home and find thee, they will kill thee." "But can you not protect me?" asked the little sister. The maiden, however, firmly resolved to deliver her brothers, even if it should cost her her life. She left the hut, went into the midst of the forest, seated herself on a tree, and there passed the night. Next morning she went out and gathered starwort and began to sew. She could not speak to any one, and she had no inclination to laugh; she sat there and looked at nothing but her work. When she had already spent a long time there it came to pass that the King of the country was hunting in the forest, and his huntsmen came to the tree on which the maiden was sitting. They called to her and said, "Who art thou?" But she made no answer. "Come down to us," said they. "We will not do thee any harm." She only shook her head. As they pressed her further with questions she threw her golden necklace down to them, and thought to content them thus. They, however, did not cease, and then she threw her girdle down to them, and as this also was to no purpose, her garters, and by degrees everything that she had on that she could do without until she had nothing left but her shift. The huntsmen, however, did not let themselves be turned aside by that, but climbed the tree and fetched the maiden down and led her before the King. The King asked, "Who art thou? She is not worthy of a king!" After a year had passed, when the Queen brought her first child into the world, the old woman took it away from her, and smeared her mouth with blood as she slept. Then she went to the King and accused the Queen of being a man-eater. The King would not believe it, and would not suffer any one to do her any injury. She, however, sat continually sewing at the shirts, and cared for nothing else. The next time, when she again bore a beautiful boy, the false step-mother used the same treachery, but the King could not bring himself to give credit to her words. He said, "She is too pious and good to do anything of that kind; if she were not dumb, and could defend herself, her innocence would come to light." But when the old woman stole away the newly-born child for the third time, and accused the Queen, who did not utter one word of defence, the King could do no otherwise than deliver her over to justice, and she was sentenced to suffer death by fire.

When the day came for the sentence to be executed, it was the last day of the six years during which she was not to speak or laugh, and she had delivered her dear brothers from the power of the enchantment. The six shirts were ready, only the left sleeve of the sixth was wanting. When, therefore, she was led to the stake, she laid the shirts on her arm, and when she stood on high and the fire was just going to be lighted, she looked around and six swans came flying through the air towards her. Then she saw that her deliverance was near, and her heart leapt with joy. The swans swept towards her and sank down so that she could throw the shirts over them, and as they were touched by them, their swan's skins fell off, and her brothers stood in their own bodily form before her, and were vigorous and handsome. The youngest only lacked his left arm, and had in the place of it a swan's wing on his shoulder. They embraced and kissed each other, and the Queen went to the King, who was greatly moved, and she began to speak and said, "Dearest husband, now I may speak and declare to thee that I am innocent, and falsely accused." And she told him of the treachery of the old woman who had taken away her three children and hidden them. Then to the great joy of the King they were brought thither, and as a punishment, the wicked step-mother was bound to the stake, and burnt to ashes. But the King and the Queen with their six brothers lived many years in happiness and peace.

I glance side to side and above my head a bulb appears
It shines an idea of nameless faceless drones speeding to work. I wonder what fills their heads as they race to the time clock and fill their day. Are they worried of babies, of bills, of rent, are they wondering about tuition or mothers ...perhaps it is grandma's leaking faucet? Are they thinking at all?

I feel like I am lost in a giant habit-trail trudging along....

We are furry hamsters frantically spinning a huge wheel
spinning it faster and faster to some unknown reveal.

Trapped in the rat race, blind mice in a maze
scurrying while gnawing at the walls in a daze.

I want to escape this endless mouse trap
I want to see the world and place pins on a map.

I can't stop to breath I can't stop to wonder
I bumble around and struggle not to blunder.

My bosses give me fancy papers to frame

But all I really want is just to live fairly

Immortal Song

I remember when it was that I first saw you. I was spellbound with your beauty.

You moved toward me with such fluid grace. Your face was so delicate, so enchanting. I was mesmerized. I recollect how you peered right into my soul daring me to return your gaze as I struggled not to stumble over my words of introduction.

I remember the tilt of your head and how quickly we started our first conversation. I remember following your every step that day. We spent the entire day side by side as if the world belonged only to us. I did not see anyone that day but you. At night my heart sank when you left.

I remember staring up at the moon beside the lake where we had walked hoping that you would come back but unsure as summer brings many visitors that never stayed long. I dared not dose that night in case you chose to return. I sat at our spot on the dock the entire night then gave up at the sight of dawn.

I remember like it was yesterday that I stretched and made my way down the lake path and headed for home when I saw you again heading straight for me. My heart leaped in in delight at your return.

I ran to you laughing as we played that day running at the waters edge. I was your pursuer until we both got tired and decided to eat. We ate as the sky began to fade to darkness and fear came again to my heart once more that you would be leaving.

I recall how you turned to me again in a playful nod to follow you once again and took off into a run. I chased you along the bank until you leaped into a dive into the waters edge. I remember stopping to watch as you glided under and disappeared for a moment the alighted up shimmering like an angel. I dove into the waters warm silken arms and kicked my legs hard to try to catch you. You were an exceptional swimmer.

Together we swirled side by side in the warm currents under the stars. I remember how soft your felt when I finally touched your body. You felt softer than anything I have ever known. Our bodies swayed softly as if connected somehow to the lake. I curled tightly around you as we began dancing right there in the waters edge. You pressed closer to my chest and stared right into my soul. That was the moment I knew that I loved you and that there would never be anyone but you. I moved closer touching your neck and face. I opened my mouth and softly sang to you under the moon.

I sang to you with all my heart, letting the words an emotions escape me without worry. I sang to you louder of how I wanted you for my own and how I would love you until the day I die. I sang to you my life's journey up until our meeting. I sang to of my hope for you and I.

Today I sing for you a different song. I serenade a wretched song of pain and infinite sorrow. Today I will scream my woeful ballad by the lake's edge in anger, in defiance. Today I shout your name in wrath.

I lift my head up to our moon and serenade a heinous ballad of of rage.

I cry and choke in my own words as I look down at you. I cannot believe my eyes.

How can this be?
Who would do this?
Oh god why? Oh no!
Please wake up.

But you are dead. You lie there bleeding. Your body is still warm.
You have been shot.
I lay over your body crying. I try to move you to wake.
I feel my universe collapse as I close my eyes upon you still chest.

I hear the rustling of leaves. A huge wild dog now barks ferouciously and heads toward us. I stand in defiance daring it to come any closer. I scream and lunge hissing at it until it whines. I lunge and aim right for its nose. It yelps and backs up. I hover over you to keep you safe. This mongrel will not defile my love!

I turn to see a man approach holding a gun. (He is the killer!)I lunge at him instantly. I scream and flail at him with every inch of my being. I scream but only slurs come out. My eyes turn black as I stare down my only love's killer.

He stares at me beside you. You lay there so beautiful, as if asleep. Your head turned to the side. I want to kill the man but cannot take my eyes off of my sweet love. I touch you now sobbing. All I can do is turn back down and lay beside you. My throat chokes with air as I struggle to breath. The world begins to spin around me.

(I want him to kill me too!) I stroke your face and sing you a last love song in anguish. I take a deep jagged breath as I sing to you our last song.

The man comes closer. He puts his hands up in peace. I hiss at him again but do not have the will to get up.

The man begins to cry.
He just sits there and cries watching me cradle you and sing to you the entire night. At dawn he returns to find me still laying beside you. I scream at him to leave us alone. I never left your side. I never parted from you. I kept my promise, just like I said I would in our love song.

The man continued to return and I the third day he buried us side by side under the weeping willow tree by the dock. He sobbed as he lifted my limp body up. My feathered arms still clutched you tight resting over your bloodied downy chest. Every year under the full moon our souls re-unite here . We drift together in the current dancing together once again

Most never notice us or recall our love story. But in the darkness one night if you hear the song, It is I singing to my love, my swan song.
