What I say:
What happens when one day you walk into a bank and 52 hours later 2 people are shot, lives have been changed, relationships broken and new ones made? This is the story of nine people and what happened during a robbery that goes bad using flashbacks, but mainly it's about what happens after they're rescued.
Watching this I'm struck by the similarities to "Lost" but instead of being stranded on an island they're in a bank, and what happens after they're rescued. The story has
everything that "Lost" has including the flashbacks, and many of the same corresponding
characters and archetypes, except without the exotic local...or a shirtless Sawyer.
While I like some of the actors and there are a few interesting characters with
possibilities I was a bit disappointed in the overall story. I just didn't see the draw
to each other. Sure they all have a common bond where the robbery is concerned, but 5
minutes after being rescued I wasn't interested and they all seemed to have lost their
personalities. I'll admit there are a few questions that intrigued me enough to check
out a few more episodes including why one person has amnesia and what would happen to
make her completely lose those two days from her memory. Or why another hostage had some of her hair chopped off, why a couple that was isn't any longer, and why someone wants to talk to one of the gunman, but I'm not sure they're enough to keep me tuning in week after week long term.
I can picture this just becoming another night time soap about who's sleeping with who and who can emote the best. I can't see how they can drag this out longer than a miniseries let alone 22 hours or even a number of years if they should get lucky...but I guess since Lost is going into its third season anything is possible. I keep thinking (hoping) that it won't make it if Invasion couldn't...than reality zooms back in and I realize this is a pretty mainstream show about the every day Joes of the world and I realize it will be a mega-hit.
For me the highlight of the whole episode was listening for Owain Yeoman to slip with
his American accent so you could hear the natural British one that makes him sound so
damn sexy. Now he's a hottie, if they could find a way to take his shirt off every
episode I might just have to rethink my feelings about the show...mmm,now where was I?
Oh,
There were quite a few little things that kept nagging at me such as why these people would want to stay in touch including going to a funeral together where they act
like long time best friends? It might just be me but I'd want as little to do with any
of them as possible. Sure things happened in the bank but I highly doubt they had time
to build such meaningful relationships. And just why would they want to continue to be
around reminders of what happened to them? After a bit it just starts to feel like the
characters are bent to meet the demands of the story instead of it following naturally
from the events. It's a story about nine strangers that come together after a bank
robbery so come hell or high water those people will be drawn together at any cost.
The capper for me is when the alpha female character that is a DA supposedly leaves her
hair hacked off for almost two weeks but decides to give herself a haircut in her
office...without a mirror and denying help. Then minutes later she turns up for dinner
with perfectly trimmed and styled hair. *rolls eyes* I hate crap like that.
On a rating of 1-5, with 5 being the best:
