Après lui (2007)

"A woman (Catherine Deneuve) becomes obsessed with her son's best friend after her child dies in a car accident."

I seriously cannot wait to see this movie. It stars Catherine Deneuve and if anyone can pull off a role like that it's her. Here is the trailer [the song that plays in the background is "Mysteries" by Beth Gibbons & Rustin Man] and here are some stills from the movie. I envy all of you French people right now.

And then we shall rest... we shall rest.

"Frances was a rebel when it wasn't fashionable — a free-thinking woman of the '30s and '40s whose outspoken nature, shocking language and anti-social behavior landed her in jails and mental institutions."

I became interested in Frances Farmer because of Jessica's brilliant portrayal of Frances in the movie "Frances". I love the lady. I love her sarcasm, I love her anti-social behavior. It's sad what they did to her. She rebelled against Hollywood and wouldn't have it their way and they silenced her. Simple as that. Here's an essay titled "God Dies", which she wrote at 16.

Some more quotes straight from the lady's lips. Please do read them, some of those are downright hilarious:

Girl, Interrupted.

I finally got around to watching "Girl, Interrupted". I would really like to know what the hell happened to Angelina Jolie's acting (and Brittany Murphy's, too). This movie proves that she can act. She didn't win that Supporting Actress Oscar for nothing. The movie pretty much begins when she first appears in the asylum. The opening sequence is brilliant, too. The movie could've been much better if they had cast someone else as Susanna, and the only thing that saves it is Angelina's performance as Lisa. Unless of course you're into Winona Ryder's wide open eyes. I loved how Lisa pushed every weak person over the edge, eventually driving them to suicide so I literally groaned at the end of the movie. What a cheap, half-assed ending. Also, Vanessa Redgrave was in the movie?! Overall, I loved the movie because of Angelia's performance.

Could anyone please upload "The End Of The World" for me? I found it.

Six degrees of Meryl Streep.

I think everybody knows this game. The rules of the game are simple.

An example: Michelle Pfeiffer.

Michelle Pfeiffer was in "A Midsummer Night's Dream" with Kevin Kline
Kevin Kline was in "Sophie's Choice" with Meryl Streep.

Next: Katharine Hepburn.

Katharine Hepburn was in "The Lion In Winter" with Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins was in "Hannibal" with Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore was in "The Hours" with Meryl Streep.

Etc.

Ramblings, Meryl picture spam.

In other news, I downloaded a few Shakespeare audiobooks (brilliant, but I wish I could find "The Taming Of The Shrew") and Ellen Degenere's audiobook, hoping it would be funny (it wasn't). I've been reading a lot of books about WWII and Holocaust lately. I've always been interested in WWII for some reason. I love history, but there is nothing more boring than American history (The Civil War - yawn). Could anyone recommend some good books for me to read? I'd really appreciate it if you guys did.

I'm thinking about making this journal friends only, but I don't know if it's such a good idea. I have nothing to hide and besides I want all the computer-challenged (no offense, you girls know I love you) girls from simplystreep to be able to read my entries.

And because I've never had one of those, a Meryl Streep picture spam. Don't like, don't look. My fellow Streep lovers will like it. :) Another one will follow soon.

"Well, even for myself, I do like to make a point of sleeping with people I don't know. I find once you get to know them, you don't want to sleep with them anymore" - Susan Traherne

"Well, I would stop. I would stop fucking talking if I ever heard anybody else say anything worth fucking stoping talking for!" - Susan Traherne

"I must thank you for your frankness. I must, however, warn you of my plan. If Brock is not promoted within the next six days, I'm intending to shoot myself. Now... thank you... I shan't stay for the drink." - Susan Traherne

"Do you have any idea of the price I have to pay, sitting here all day, pretending to be stupid?! I have tried, I have, I have tried for months to sink to the level of this enterprise. Well, forget it! The dog has a taste..." - Susan Traherne

"I asked Mick to father a child. That's what we're talking about. Well, we have tried for over 18 months, is that right? And we have failed. Which leaves us both feeling pretty stupid. And there is a point of decency, at which the experiment should stop." - Susan Traherne

"We have the whole attention of the men. Their minds were elsewhere. They were probably drafting a telegram, that's what they do. Before they drop a bomb along the Suesse, they send their target a notice in a telegram. What does that indicate to you, sir Aung? I'll tell you what it indicates to me: bad conscience. They don't even have the guts to make a war anymore." - Susan Traherne

"Plenty" is such an underrated movie.
