Scattered thoughts

It's somewhat refreshing seeing the two branches of Congress working the way they were designed to, one taking a long view, and the other reacting based on the desires of citizens.

Still, I wonder what would have happened had the crisis hit a week *after* the election. Or, well, I know what would happen.

Does anyone else get the same feeling from watching the House shoot down the bailout, as they got when Ireland shot down the Lisbon treaty? The feeling of democracy in action, screw this "republic" nonsense? For that matter, it's reminding me an awful lot of Thucydides, too. And I don't think that's a good sign.
