To set expectations, I don’t know if what I’ve posted so far can all be printed… The aspect ratios are whack because I’ve been creating canvases at random sizes and cropping based on how it looks on my iPhone~

Hi and thank you!! I do all my drawing in the HEAVYPAINT app on iPad. I super recommend it. It’s free to try on all platforms including desktop and mobile web!! I tried a bunch of apps when PHM first took over my soul and found the popular apps like procreate and clip studio pro to be a bit overwhelming.
Heavypaint is perfect for those who struggle with multi-step workflows *and* with learning tools. I wanted an app that lets me jump into drawing something, anything, without overthinking. I also love crazy colors and interesting textures, both of which heavypaint was designed to produce— the “color jitter” brush setting is elevated to the main panel, which I’ve never seen before!
How I draw in heavypaint:
I draw everything on one layer until it feels 95% done. Why: avoiding the optionality of layers helps me always be moving forward with each brush stroke. Whereas exploring different potential directions without committing makes me lose steam and go do something else.
I establish lines, shapes, and colors at the same time. Why: this is probably not great. It’s especially inefficient if i need to fix something structural. But again this does help me finish drawings in one sitting (continuing the theme of avoid overthinking and paralysis).
I often finish it off by adding some wild visual effects in a new layer with overlay, hard light, color burn, etc. Why: for fun!! This is driven by instinct and whatever i think is “missing”. I’ll be in a good flow at this point and these final touches come naturally.
Before I upload it, if something doesn’t quite look the way i want I make a final adjustment in the Photos app 😂 (contrast, brightness, warmth)
Can you elaborate on the “let Rocky do smalls things so Grace can do big things later” tag?
Hello!! Oops yes that tag was kind of inscrutable, sorry! I make up little stories in my head sometimes when drawing, which can help with conveying some specific emotion :) so i was picturing Rocky saying that to Grace when Grace is starving and no longer has the energy to perform ordinary movements that he once took for granted, like pulling a shirt on over his head and tying his shoes. Not that Grace says as much. Rocky knows it’s important for him to stick to his routine and, through performing it, to pretend that things are ok for as long as they both can. Rocky anticipates all the moments when Grace would need help and simply takes over before Grace can struggle.
I also see Rocky as a stubborn optimist. He’ll agonize and grieve privately when Grace is sleeping- Grace is constantly sleeping now. But when Grace is lucid enough to talk, Rocky is always looking to the future. To their future, to Grace’s next solid meal, the next experiment, the next adventure they’ll have on their new home world. There is no alternative outcome worth considering.
So that’s the whole backstory behind that tag :’’). (Btw we don’t see this in the movie, but a true gracerocky scholar told me that in the book Grace does get severely malnourished once they get to Erid because he runs out of coma slurry and it takes a while to synthesize the nutrients™ he needs)
