I'm not supporting Sony's business any further.

It's a mildly fun extraction shooter, but some baffling design choices and the fact that Sony laid off all my friends who poured their hearts and souls into both Destiny and Marathon makes this genuinely hard to recommend. I don't know if this game will be around in a year.

DO NOT BUY INTO THIS SINKING SHIP.
I wanted to see the last game that bungo will make.

Addressing common points:

1. Is the artstyle good?
No, uniqueness does not equal quality or suitability for an FPS game, which relies on clear visuals to communicate in game elements. While player characters have clear silhouettes, that is where proper design consideration ends. HUD elements frequently get lost in the environment, and items rely on descriptions for the player to discern its function. The game looks like a modern art exhibit, which is unique for sure, but does not serve to sell skins from any point of appeal barring garish recolors, and occasionally equally garish new models.

2. Is there a good story?
Yes, BUT the story is portrayed via text, 1/10th of which is voiced and the rest silent. A handful of in game missions change the environment in the current match superficially, but otherwise does not alter gameplay. The story is better off experienced on youtube.

3. Is there matchmaking?
Of course. The consensus when the game launched was that there is no matchmaking aside from your player level. However, pattern recognition exists. You will find out that bringing different items will result in different kinds of opponents showing up. Bungo has at least advertised mic based matchmaking for player communications. If such granular levels of control are available, it is hard to imagine that a pipeline for other criteria doesn't exist: Key based matchmaking, Loadout value based matchmaking, Shield color based matchmaking...You are treated as a labrat in a social experiment that shifts its parameters week to week unannounced.

4. Is the loot worth the effort?
Hell no! When a consistent farm is found, Bungo nerfs it to the ground. The game has 4 maps, 3 of which require a hilarious amount of effort to access mediocre loot. Only the 4th one has juice worth the squeeze.
Perimeter and Dire marsh variants:
Sniper fest, Roving purple shield death squads hunting new players who have to do missions in these maps.
Outpost:
Wiping the lobby consistently nets you a room at the top of the map with blue salvage on the desk, half the stuff in loot chests will be flares and other commonly found throwables.
Cryo archive:
PVP balancing nightmare, meta build or don't bother. Right now its the misriah shotgun, which is a unicorn that does not drop anywhere else aside from the bodies of dead players. Spawn rush, Spawn rush, Spawn rush, within 2 minutes of spawning you will have a Gold Shield death squad sitting on your face. Gold shields with gold guns that have flat DPS increase with no drawbacks.
See 3. on matchmaking, bringing anything of value will result in you and your friends committing hours of your life to charitable causes, enriching the experience of the streaming and esports community.

5. Is crew fill a viable way to play if you don't have friends?
No. I play with unemployed and individuals with flexible schedules, and also occasionally fill with randoms and have experienced both sides. The difference is night and day. Your uncoordinated, mic shy, 9-5 working, "play this map for the first time" fill squad is getting into the same lobbies as people who have played for years together in the same discord call with coordinated inventories and strategies. You may manage your equipment to reduce losses when playing without friends, but time is not something you can earn back.

6. Do I have a skill issue?
250+ season 1 level, done all vaults, killed compiler multiple times (Not to the extent of regularly farming it), All cryo skins obtained (Admittedly half of which are from friendly lobbies). At this point, most would call this "sweaty" and therefore sufficient authority to draw these conclusions.

Conclusion:
The flaws of this game are not incidental, but intentional design from the developers. They have clearly stated this game is designed for premade teams, and have historically catered to the gameplay experience of top % players rather than the common majority.

Everything is a pvp funnel, all interactions in the tiny maps make blaring noises and npcs spot and shoot you from kilometers away. All designed to expose your location. Avoidance is rarely a strategy worth your time, as clearing the distance of the entire map is trivial with squads typically counting bodies to make sure everyone is dead. It is a battle royale in extraction shooter's clothing where the winner wins the peace and quiet to loot uninterrupted.

There is no doubt anyone has the freedom to develop any game they want, for any audience they want. However, one must agree that all of the deliberate choices Bungo made do not sustain a product costing 250 million dollars to develop. R.I.P. Bungo
