Trade Federation Script, also known as Trade Federation Basic, was a writing system used to transcribe Galactic Basic Standard. It was used by the Trade Federation. By the Clone Wars, it was used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems.
Form
Trade Federation Script comprized at least 26 letters, and used a 10-based positional numeric system.[7] It could be written horizontally from left-to-right[1] or vertically from top-to-bottom.[3]
History
High Republic Era
While being tested by the Jedi, a young Osha Aniseya was asked to divine what images she saw on a testing screen, which Jedi Master Sol held turned away from Osha. The viewscreen showed various motifs and some tiny symbols, most of which were unknown, but a few were from the Trade Federation alphabet.[8]
As an older Osha and fellow meknek Fillik were repairing the shield generator of the Trade Federation freighter Fallon, a monitor inside the vessel displayed the word "WARNING" in Trade Federation Script.[9]
The viewscreen on Jedi Knight Yor Fandar's electrobinoculars displayed a series of symbols, most of which were unfamiliar, but two stood out: an R and a stylized Z, written in the Trade Federation's signature script.[10]
Republic Era
The display on the macrobinoculars used by Darth Maul while searching for Queen Amidala on Tatooine used the numerals from the Trade Federation Script.[2]
A computer in the Droid Control Ship, used to activate the Trade Federation Droid Army during the Battle of Naboo, used this alphabet.[2]
The B1 battle droids deployed by the Trade Federation in the Battle of Naboo had numerals written in Trade Federation Script on their comlink booster packs, in a four digit format. For example, a droid that was shot down by Jar Jar Binks on the Great Grass Plains with the blaster rifle of a cut in half battle droid was designated "1234," while another battle droid tackled by one of Binks's fellow Gungans while Bink's leg got stuck a few seconds earlier was labeled "2724." After Captain Panaka broke a large window during the battle to retake the Theed Royal Palace, a battle droid standing with their back to a large column was designated "7629," whereas a fallen droid lying on the ground in front of another column was numbered "2767"; curiously, another droid standing by one of the opposite columns bore the same number. A deactivated droid that fell limp before Binks after the Trade Federation's Droid Control Ship was destroyed had "1138" on its booster pack.[2]
During the Battle of Geonosis, a B1 battle droid that was firing at opposing Jedi while Mace Windu deflected a blaster shot into a OOM command battle droid, had "1138" printed on its booster pack.[11]
Blueprints of the Jedi Temple contained text written with Aurebesh letters, and numbers in Trade Federation Script. Blueprints of the temple hangar included the text "AB281," "DELTA-7" and "DELTA-7 AETHERSPRITE," while blueprints of the Analysis Rooms included "FLOOR 47" and "3263827 ANALYSIS." A list of specifications for an SP-4 analysis droid included the text "IC-GR8 ANALYSIS DROID."[12]
The T-series military strategic analysis and tactics droid, also known as T1, had the letter L on its chest.[13] One version of the droid also carried the letter on its head.[14]
During the Battle of Lola Sayu, a T1's computer screen used this alphabet. A scan of a cargo shuttle read: "SEPARATIST ESCORT SHUTTLE CLASS TYPE B" • "SCAN COMPLETE" • "SUPPLIES" • "BEVERAGES" • "FOOD" • "MORE FOOD" • "GUNS" • "GENERAL SUPPLIES" • "FROZEN RATIONS" • "ANAKIN SKYWA[obscured]" • "CARBONITE" • "METAL," with the options "DESTROY" and "LET PASS."[1]
During the Clone Wars, the name of "CATO,"[3] a dancing establishment[15] on Coruscant's Level 1312[3] and 1313,[16] was written in this alphabet.[3] At the end of the Clone Wars, this alphabet was used on the monitors of General Grievous's flagship, the Invisible Hand.[17]
Imperial Era
During a mission to rescue Jedi Master Luminara Unduli from the Spire, this alphabet was used on a computer accessed by Sabine Wren. The screen said "LOCKED TURBOLIFT."[6] The same text appeared on a computer used by the crime lord Azmorigan in Nixus Hub 218.[5]
At the time of the Galactic Civil War, a sign on Hradreek said "FOODS" in Aurebesh and Trade Federation Script.[4]
New Republic era
The console of the racing starfighter Fireball used Trade Federation Script. The message "WARNING" • "CHECK OIL" and "SYSTEM" • "WARNING" appeared on several occasions when Kazuda Xiono was flying it: First, when the young pilot was powering up the Fireball for the race against Torra Doza, and during the actual race.[18] Later, it appeared while Xiono was flying the Fireball over Castilon,[19] and during a training exercise with Ace Squadron.[20] Sometimes, the console merely read "SYSTEM" • "WARNING." This happened when Xiono was on a mission to rescue Torra Doza from pirates,[21] and during the mission to the Dassal system.[22] At other times, it only contained the first set of data, "WARNING" • "CHECK OIL." This happened during the Battle of Castilon[23] and during another training exercise with Ace Squadron.[20]
When Sidon Ithano met up with Drell and Kragan Gorr on an asteroid, tiny red monitors on the crates that were unloaded from the Meson Martinet said "LOCKED." Later, the monitors switched to green[24] and "UNLOCKED."[25] A datapad used by Neeku Vozo while repairing a B1-series battle droid said:[24]
B1BATTLEDROIDSERIES [sic]
STATUS:

WARNING:

MALFUNCTION
A schematic diagram of Mister Bones said "B1 BATTLE DROID" in Trade Federation Script. It also contained the numbers "180" (listed once) and "360" (listed twice).[26]
Behind the scenes
This alphabet, known as Trade Federation Basic in Legends continuity,[27] first appeared in Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[2]
