Tracking fobs,[6] also known as locator beacons,[2] were short-range sensors used by bounty hunters to track their quarries. Bounty hunters who took on assignments gained access to their target's chain code—an identification marker that described certain biographical information. This code drove the parameters of tracking fobs, which were attuned to this biometric data.[6] It took an experienced hunter capable of networking for information and stalking prey to fully utilize a tracking fob.[7] Even so, bounty hunters often had to rely on their own ingenuity to track down a target, rather than strictly relying on the technology.[8]
Upon the capture and delivery of said quarry, a Guild operative would run a sensor check on the bounty's body and would compare it to the chain code data on the fob, confirming the identification of the acquisition.[6]
In 9 ABY,[9] the Bounty Hunters' Guild handed out[1] TF-9200[10] tracking fobs to its hunters. Quarries listed on tracking fobs througout their history included a Mythrol, Grogu, Fennec Shand, and Kaba Baiz. All but Shand were collected by Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin.[1]

Tracking fobs first appeared in Chapter 1 of the 2019 Disney+ television series Star Wars: The Mandalorian,[1] which aired on November 12, 2019.[11]
