Pagodon was a terrestrial ice-covered planet located in the Outer Rim Territories where ravinaks lived below the surface.^[7] The planet was an ideal hiding place for nefarious citizens of the galaxy.^[5] Locations such as a Ferryman's Reach and its local public house were found on the surface,^[6] but the population mostly consisted of travelers.^[5] In 9 ABY, the Mandalorian bounty hunter Din Djarin arrived at Pagodon aboard his personal starship and captured a Mythrol at the bar after defeating the trawlers there. He departed the planet after a brief struggle with a ravinak.

Description

Located in the Outer Rim Territories,^[7] Pagodon^[6] was a terrestrial, ice-covered planet where ravinaks dwelled in the waters below the plains from where they erupted often.^[7] Pagodon had a breathable atmosphere and a frigid climate. When viewed from space, Pagodon had a light blue surface.^[4]

In 9 ABY,^[8] the Mandalorian bounty hunter^[4] Din Djarin^[9] arrived at the planet aboard his personal starship, the Razor Crest, to hunt down and capture a Mythrol. Using a tracking fob, he tracked the Mythrol's whereabouts to a public house at the settlement Ferryman's Reach. Within the bar, the Mythrol was harassed by a group of trawlers until the bounty hunter entered the bar. Shortly after, a brawl ensued between Djarin and the trawlers, with the former emerging victorious.^[4]

Djarin then confronted and placed the Mythrol under his custody before exiting the bar to return to his ship. He approached the Kubaz ferryman Barlidan and hired the landspeeder pilot Pyan Bosen to transport the bounty hunter and the Mythrol to the Razor Crest. After dropping off Djarin and the Mythrol, Bosen was killed by a ravinak, which quickly approached the Razor Crest. The creature held on to the starship's landing gear with its jaws while it attempted to take off. Djarin stunned the ravinak using his Amban phase-pulse blaster before departing the planet with the Mythrol in tow.^[4]

Species residing on Pagodon included Dyplotids, humans, Kubaz, Mythrol, Onodones, and Quarrens.^[4]

MandoWalkaway — Din Djarin, Mandalorian bounty hunter, visits Pagodon.

Pagodon consisted of a small settlement called Ferryman's Reach, an outpost that consisted of sixteen buildings, including a local public house for trawlers to relax in, with boardwalks between them.^[6] The public house was run by a human bartender. At one location, the ferryman Barlidan worked with landspeeder pilots to provide transportation to customers for a fee. The port was known for having an issue with ravinaks, as crews would dump their Gray Holds out, which became a source of food for the carnivores.^[4]

Behind the scenes

Pagodon first appeared in the first episode of the television series Star Wars: The Mandalorian, which was titled "Chapter 1: The Mandalorian," directed by Dave Filoni,^[4] and aired on November 12, 2019.^[10] Prior to the episode's release, the planet was shown in a trailer released on August 23, 2019.^[11] The planet's landscape was illustrated by Doug Chiang and Nick Gindraux.^[12] Pagodon was identified in Matt Jones' 2021 reference book Star Wars: The Mandalorian Handbook.^[6]

The planet was misidentified as Maldo Kreis in an interview conducted by the American Cinematographer magazine with showrunner Jon Favreau and series cinematographers Baz Idoine and Greig Fraser.^[13] During the filming process, Pagodon's environment was created with a combination of a practical set and a 360-degree LED screen on which the backgrounds were projected to give the illusion of a physical environment.^[14]
