- "They seem cute and cuddly, but they have a mean streak a kilometer wide."
"That's what makes them so great. They are just as nature made them." - ―Nyla Quinn and Imri Cantaros
Tookas, also called tooka-cats or Adoris Felines, were a subspecies of feline cats.[10] They were popular as pets as the carnivores ate many unwanted pests,[7] but were also considered by many to be feral nuisances themselves. When properly trained, they could be excellent hunters of pests.[10] One specific breed of tooka was the Loth-cat, native to the planet Lothal.[11] Tooka were known to enjoy milk.[8] Tooka were common in the underworld of Coruscant, where they hunted nuna.[6]
Biology and appearance
- "I am not equipped or programed to complete that request."
"You're telling me that you can't pick up a little tooka poop?"
"That is what I am telling you. Also, it is not a little. It is a lot of tooka… waste material." - ―K-2SO and Mayvlin Trillick
Linguistics
The idiom "tooka cat that ate the bulabird" referred to a person who appeared self-satisfied or smug.[13]
The saying "a took got your tongue?" was used to encourage someone who was being unusually quiet, to speak out.[14]
"Look what the tooka dragged in" was used to call attention to someone who had entered an area.[15]
"The tooka's out of the bag" meant that a secret had become known.[16]
Behind the scenes
- "Cats in Star Wars, why not?"
- ―Dave Filoni
Tookas first appeared in the Star Wars franchise as "Adoris feline" in Otherspace, an adventure for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game. Though this title is now part of Star Wars Legends, tookas were introduced into the Star Wars canon in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, first as a stuffed toy and later as the actual creature. They were named after Dave Filoni's deceased cat, Tuuk.[17] The StarWars.com Encyclopedia connected the Adoris feline to Tookas in its subhead subtitle, also making that name canon.[10]
In non-canon stories
In Ronin: A Visions Novel, the Traveler has a tooka cat named Kyuu.[18]

tooka in the Encyclopedia (original site is defunct) establishes that Adoris Feline is another name for Tookas. The Essential Atlas and Galactic Cartography: Official Discussion (post by jasonfry) on the Jedi Council Forums' Literature board (December 11, 2007): "I wouldn't get your hopes up re alien homeworlds, beyond simple stuff like the Planetnamian species getting a Planetnamia on the map or things Dan and I can account for with a relatively quick reference." (backup link) (screenshot) Jason Fry, co-author of The Essential Atlas and a number of maps in the current Star Wars canon (see a list here), stated his intention to create homeworlds for numerous species based on context implied from their names. This article treats the the Adoris system as the location of one such homeworld with regard to the Adoris Feline species.
