- "The Republic boundary beyond the Mid Rim—that's imaginary and has been for years. The hyperspace lanes in the Slice that approach Hutt Space get a lot of pirate activity. There's a wide swath where it's gotten too dangerous to operate."
- ―A Regal Voyager steward
The Slice was an eastward region of the galaxy.[3] A colossal wedge-shaped fan of star systems, it stretched from the Core Worlds to the Outer Rim Territories,[2] and consisted of the region between the Perlemian Trade Route and the Corellian Run super-hyperroutes.[4] It shared borders with the Interior westward, the New Territories northward, and the Trailing Sectors southward.[3] During the Republic Era, piracy was rampant in the Slice, leading corporations to relocate from the region. Combined with the Jedi Order closing a number of Jedi outposts in the Slice, the region became even less secure.[2] By 33 BBY,[5] five major pirate gangs operated in the Slice: the Filthy Credits, the Poisoned Blades, the Riftwalkers, the Staved Skulls, and the Vile.[2]
Behind the scenes
Star Wars: The Galactic Explorer's Guide depicts the Slice in a stylized map that does not match the prior Star Wars Legends definition, dropping the Arrowhead Region and excluding a section of the galaxy southeast of Corellia.[3] The guide's author Jason Fry has stated that the map was developed for ease of readability on a mobile phone for use in the Disney parks, and that its borders should not be considered definitive or overriding other sources.[6]
