Repulsorpods,[4] also known as hoverpods,[5] viewing platforms,[6] or simply pods,[3] were used by members of the Galactic and Imperial Senates during debates in the Senate Building chamber.[6] After the founding of the New Republic, the use of repulsorpods in the Senate was considered "overly hierarchical," and thus the pods were reserved for ceremonial functions.[3] They were equipped with repulsors, enabling them to hover towards the center of the auditorium while speaking to the Senate,[2] or rise above to ground to address a crowd.[3] Representatives could express disapproval by deactivating their pod's illumination strip.[7]
During the Clone Wars, since the Infiltrator demolition droids blow up the central power distribution grid on Coruscant goes the mandatory blackout, even to stop the vote for the bill to de-regulate banking conglomerates, the repulsorpods and the chamber goes to the emergency power mode.[8]
During his duel with Yoda, Darth Sidious hurled multiple platforms at the Jedi Grand Master with the Force.[2]
In the Imperial Era, the repulsorpods had changed and added the Imperial crest.[9]
