Massassi trees were purple-barked[3] giant trees[1] that grew on the moon Yavin 4, forming an impenetrable rain forest that covered the moon's surface, which became home to one of the galaxy's richest and most diverse ecosystems.[3] The tree was named after Massassi,[4] warriors who built stone temples on the Yavin moon over 5000 years before the time of the Galactic Empire[5] before going extinct, and was the habitat of various animal species, including the woolamanders and the stintarils.[1]
Behind the scenes
Massassi trees originated in Galaxy Guide 2: Yavin and Bespin, a supplement to Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game written by Jonatha Caspian and published by West End Games and released in 1989. The Massassi tree were confirmed to be canon in the reference book Ultimate Star Wars, which was released in 2015.
