A legion was a ground infantry unit within an army. The 501st Legion was one such unit within the Grand Army of the Republic during the Clone Wars.[2] The Confederacy of Independent Systems' Droid Army utilized legions, with Commander Riff Tamson leading a legion of aqua droids.[3] In the Stormtrooper Corps, a legion consisted of four regiments, giving one a total of 12,800 stormtroopers.[4] Galactic Emperor Sheev Palpatine deployed[1] Tempest Force,[5] an entire legion of his best troops on the forest moon of Endor to protect the second Death Star's shield generator. This legion battled Rebel Alliance forces and native Ewok warriors during the Battle of Endor.[1] The First Order split their stormtroopers into legions of 8,000 troopers. There was one full legion on the Resurgent-class Star Destroyer Finalizer.[6] The Sith Eternal split their Sith troopers into legions of 5,000 soldiers, with each legion being named after an ancient Sith Lord.[7]
