A journalist, also known as a reporter or newscaster, was an individual who made a living reporting on news events. They usually worked for news agencies and companies like HoloNet News and the Environmental Action Gazette, and were trained to observe people and describe them in a few specific details. Journalists were overseen by editors.

Alton Kastle was a propaganda reporter for the Imperial Press Corps. One notable journalist was Anora Fair, who reported on the Antar Atrocity and later joined Berch Teller's rebel cell. Calliope Drouth and Ricta Varsh both were journalists for the HoloNet News who tried to secretly work against the Galactic Empire by secretly gathering information about their actions. The rebel Hera Syndulla later posed as a journalist working for the Environmental Action Gazette in order to get Skelly to tell her about the Empire's mining operations on Gorse. Tracene Kane worked as a journalist during the Galactic Civil War. Suralinda Javos was a journalist during the time of the Cold War.
