Gold One was a BTL-A4 Y-wing assault starfighter/bomber under the command of Gold Leader Captain Jon Vander during the Galactic Civil War.[1] Vander most notably used Gold One in battles such as the Battle of Scarif[8] and the Battle of Yavin, where it was destroyed when Vander was shot down by the Sith Lord Darth Vader.[5]
History
Service to Mon Mothma
In 2 BBY, Gold One was flown as escort for Mon Mothma's ship, the Chandrila Mistress. When the Empire soon attacked the escort, Gold One and the rest of Gold Squadron formed a defensive perimeter around the ship. After the Mistress was destroyed and their attackers defeated, Gold One escaped.[7]
Battle of Scarif
When Rogue One intercepted the Death Star plans on Scarif, Gold One along with the rest of Gold Squadron participated in the battle. After Jyn Erso transmitted the plans to the Profundity, Gold One along with Gold Squadron jumped to hyperspace back to Yavin 4.[8]
Battle of Yavin
Following the Destruction of Alderaan and the Rescue of Princess Leia, the Rebel Alliance prepared their final attack against the superweapon. Gold One, piloted by Vander, participated in the battle. Upon making their way to the Meridian trench, they were intercepted by Darth Vader in his TIE Advanced x1, when the Sith Lord shot down the fighter, taking Vander and R2-BHD[9] along with it.[5]
